Goal
Promote And Support The Development And Delivery Of A Rigorous, Contemporary Curriculum
The Office of the Provost will promote and support the development and delivery of a rigorous, contemporary curriculum at Sam Houston State University. 

Objective
Redevelopment Of The Core Curriculum
The Office of the Provost will progress work on the redevelopment of the core curriculum at Sam Houston State University to be implemented Fall 2014.

Successfully Progress Discussions On The Redevelopment Of The Core Curriculum
Committee work should continue on the development, review, and approval of the 2014 Core Curriculum at SHSU.  Core Curriculum Committee members should meet to discuss, review, and make recommendations for approval on each proposed Core course.  A final recommendation of all approved courses should be presented to the Academic Affairs Council and the Provost for consideration.

Core Curriculum Approved
The 2014 Core Curriculum for SHSU was approved by the AAC, the Provost, the President, the TSUS, and the THECB.  Furthermore, a core assessment plan was developed by a faculty committee and subsequently approved by the THECB.

SHSU will implement the newly revised Core Curriculum and related assessment plan in the Fall 2014 semester.

Initiate A Formal Undergraduate Program Review Process
The Office of the Provost will initiate a formal undergraduate program review process that includes an analysis of faculty resources; student inputs; student outputs; financial, personnel, technical, space, and library resources; assessment plan activities; and curriculum review procedures.  Specifically, policy, guidelines, and templates will be developed for review and approval of the Council of Academic Deans and the Provost.

The Undergraduate Program Review process is currently in progress.  Due to a re-prioritization of activities within the Office of Academic Planning and Assessment, review and approvals by the Council of Academic Deans did not occur during the 2013-2014 cycle.

Due to a re-priortication of activities within the Office of Academic Planning and Assessment, the implementation of the Undergraduate Program Review  will be delayed until the 2014-2015 cycle.

Enhance Strategic Planning Process
The Office of the Provost will enhance the strategic planning process to look beyond a one-year time context.

During the 2013-2014 cycle successfully enhance the strategic planning process to encompass a 5-year projection.  An overall direction and scope of the revised strategic planning process will be developed by the Council of Academic Deans and the Academic Affairs Executive Council. Guiding questions, scope, time frame, and purpose should be addressed.

Strategic Planning Framework Developed
Throughout the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters, the executive leadership teams within the Division of Acdemic Affairs met to discuss and identify the overal scope and direction of the long term strategic plan for the Division.  Specifically, the division leadership team identified the following plan components as being necessary to guide the Division:  Vision, Mission, Strategic Goals, Environmental Scan, Curriculum Plan, Academic Services Plan, Research Plan, and Marketing/Recruitment/Messaging Plan.  Initial work was to begin with the Curriculum Plan, for which much progress has been made.  A revised timeline, templates, and process will be implemented for the 2014-2015 curriculum cycle.  A 5-year curriculum request projection has also been developed.  In addition, a preliminary, unofficial seach for external strategic planning consulting services was conducted.

In addition, the annual operational planning timeline was modified to allow for a more timely review of new initiative and related budget requests.

A search for and selection of a strategic planning consultant will occur in the 2014-2015 cycle.  With the aid of the strategic planning consultant, work will progress in the development of the 6-year strategic plan for the Division of Academic Affairs.

Provide An Enriching Environment And Appropriate Resources To Recruit, Retain, And Develop Highly Qualified And Successful Faculty Members
The Office of the Provost will work to provide an enriching environment and appropriate resources to recruit, retain, and develop highly qualified and successful faculty members for Sam Houston State University.

Restructure The Provost's Breakfast Series
The Office of the Provost will restructure the Provost’s breakfast series to include both Fall and Spring events, with a focus on information not already covered in new facutly orientation.

The restructured Provost's Breakfast Series was successfully implemented in the 2013-2014 cycle.  Through a series of breakfast and lunch sessions, new faculty were provided with institutional information to include local and state governance structures, as well as, cross divisional functionality.

As the restructured series was sucessfully implemented, no action is necessary.  The series will continue each semester with minor modifications to presented information as necessary.

Equitable Distribution Of Faculty Salaries And Workloads
The Office of the Provost will assess the faculty and staff salaries and workloads to establish equitable distributions across colleges at Sam Houston State University.

Review Of Staffing Resources
Data will be collected to review the staffing resources by college and department.

Result
Staffing Reclassification
During the 2013-2014 cycle, the Division of Academic Affairs worked closely with the Department of Human Resources to examine the staffing classificiation system within the division.  Following a thourough study of staff positions and duties, it was determined that a change in the classification system was warranted.  Based upon the study's findings, all non-exempt staff titles were restructured into a streamlined system of titles that clearly distinguish roles, allows for comparision of duties accross the division, and provide a clear progression of upward mobility through positions.  Each staff member's title was changed to adhere to the new system effective September 1, 2014.

During the 2013-2014 cycle, the Office of the Provost will collect data to determine the distribution of pool faculty salaries accross colleges. Pending findings on equitable distributions, an analysis will be conducted to determine the fiscal impact of resolving any inequities.
