Leadership Development
The goal of the MBA degree is to develop business professionals prepared for leadership roles.

Objective
Critical Thinking
Graduates of the MBA program should be able to distinguish relevant and non-relevant information regarding a business problem and develop a valid argument in support of a conclusion.

Indicator
Critical Thinking Writing Assignments
Written assignments throughout the MBA courses will be assessed using a common rubric, with students receiving scores indicating below, meets, or exceeds standards on the ability to 1) distinguish relevant and non-relevant information, and 2) develop a valid argument in support of a conclusion.

At least 85% of all MBA students should achieve a meets or exceeds standards score on both components of critical thinking.


Finding
Critical Thinking Results
Online MBA students (n=138): 80% scored meets or exceeds standards on component 1 of critical thinking, while 81% scored meets or exceeds standards on component 2 of critical thinking.

Face to face MBA students (n=99): 75% scored meets or exceeds standards on component 1 of critical thinking, while 78% scored meets or exceeds standards on component 2 of critical thinking.

Action
The Graduate Advisory Committee will continue to meet in Fall 2014 to study the assessment results from the past year. The committee will continue to refine the assessment process as needed to obtain information that will enhance student learning outcomes.

Strategic Decision-making
Graduates of the MBA program should be able to consider different strategic options using available evidence through the lens of organizational goals and generate applicable solutions for business problems.

Strategic Decision-making Writing Assignments
Written assignments throughout the MBA courses will be assessed using a common rubric, with students receiving scores of below, meets, or exceeds standards on their ability to 1) consider different strategic options using available evidence through the lens of organizational goals, and 2) generate applicable solutions for business problems.

Face to face MBA students: No face to face students were assessed this year on this objective.

Written assignments throughout the MBA courses will be assessed using a common rubric, with students receiving scores of below, meets, or exceeds standards on their ability to 1) demonstrate language and content that suits the intended audience, and 2) organize content in a logical sequence.

At least 85% of all MBA students should achieve a meets or exceeds standards score on both components of communication.

Online MBA students (n=39): 80% scored meets or exceeds standards on component 1 of communication and 90% scored meets or exceeds standards on component 2 of communication.

Face to face MBA students (n=37): 67% scored meets or exceeds standards on component 1 of communication and 74% scored meets or exceeds standards on component 2 of communication.

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement The Graduate Advisory Committee met in Fall 2013 to redesign the MBA assessment process so that assessment of objectives could occur throughout the program rather than only at the end. 

The rubrics reported on above were developed by the committee and were implemented in 17 MBA courses taught in Spring 2014.
