Publish College Of Business Administration Research
The intention of the Gibson D. Lewis Center for Business and Economic Development is to publish faculty research and/or pedagogical papers.

Working Papers
Faculty research and/or pedagogical papers will be published in hard copy and made available on the Center website.

Result
Working Paper Series
The Center published only one working paper during the fall, 2013 - spring, 2014 academic year.  
  • "Capital Investment and Non-Constant Marginal Cost of Capital," Mary Funck, Steve Johnson, and Robert Stretcher. 

Action
Working Papers
The Center will make an increased effort during the fall, 2014 - spring, 2015 academic year to get SHSU faculty to submit their working papers for publication by the Center.

Build COBA Image
To enhance COBA image by providing service to COBA external constituents.

Publish Journal Of Business Strategies
It is the intention of the Gibson D. Lewis Center for Business and Economic Development to publish two issues of the Journal of Business Strategies during the 2013-2014 academic year.

The Journal of Business Strategies is a quality peer reviewed journal.

Result
Journal Of Business Strategies
Volumne 30, no. 2 was publish dur the fall, 2013 semester and Vol. 31, no. 1 was published during the spring, 2014 semester.

Journal Of Business Strategies
Manuscripts will continue to be reviewed and decisions made as to whether to publish.  The Center expects to publish Vol. 31, no. 2 and Vol. 32, no. 1 during the fall, 2014 and spring, 2015 academic year.

Publish Economic Impact Studies
The staff of the Gibson D. Lewis Center for Business and Economic Development intends to publish research that measures the economic impact of various economic events and/or entities.

The Gibson D. Lewis has the skilled personel who are capable of performing economic impact studies.

Economic Impact Analysis
During the fall,  2013 semester "The Economic Impact of Sam Houston State University" was published and presented to a number of stakeholders in Walker and Montgomery counties.

Skilled Personnel To Perform Economic Impact Studies
William Green, director of the Center for Business and Economic Development attended a two-day semenar and training session in Madison Wisconsin to incresse his skills using ImPlan, an input-output software package used to measure the economic impact of economic events.

Action
Economic Impact Analysis
The Center will continue to collect data on Sam Houston State University and will update the economic impact of the institution.  Additionally the Center will work with the City of Huntsville Planning department to measure the economic impact of businesses considering locating in the region.


Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement The objectives for the 2013-2014 were met, with the continued exception of expanding the Working Paper series.  The Center will try several alternatives ways to attract more faculty working papers.

Plan for continuous improvement
  • The Center will continue to co-sponsor the Economic Seminars with the Department of Economics and International Business.
  • The Center will continue to publish the Journal of Business Strategies twice annually.
  • The Center will look for new opportunities to conduct economic impact analysis using the ImPlan software.
  • The Center will implement new measures to attract manuscripts for the Working Paper series.
  • The Center will reevaluate the mission of the Journal of Business Strategies to attract more and better manuscripts.
