Performance And Scholarly Activities At National And International Venues
The School of Music Faculty performers, scholars, and performing ensembles regularly seek opportunities to participate in Regional, National and International venues.

Each year, the School of Music performance ensembles and performance faculty submit proposals and recordings to be selected to perform and/or present at Regional, National and International venues.
Criterion
Selection Process
Proposals must be submitted a year in advance for the performance ensembles and clinic presentations. These submissions are then reviewed by a very select committee of professionals in the field. It is an honor to be selected to present. We consider success to be if we are able to have at least one proposal accepted.

Performance Success
The Sam Houston State University School of Music Opera Workshop was selected as finalists to perform at the 2014 National Opera Association Convention. In addition, The Chorale was selected to perform at the regional American Choral Director's Association (ACDA) conference in Arkansas. Both of these opportunities were acheived through a competitive selection process.

The School of Music finds a direct correlation between our continued success in these endeavors and the recruiting of talented students. We will seek the finest music students and faculty to sustain this goal and work to have at least one proposal to such venues accepted each year.

In the arts, scholarships are necessary in order to recruit the finest talent available.

Increase Available Scholarship Monies For School Of Music Students.
Each year the School Music hosts several music camps during the summer. The profits received from these camps serve a large percentage of the scholarship base offered to our students each year.

The process and needs are analyzed each year in an effort to increase the profit. New methods of advertising and budget cuts are investigated in an effort to increase the camp enrollment while decreasing the costs.

The Need To Increase The Scholarship Base Received From Camps
The School of Music needs to maintain a minimum profit of $40,000.00 dollars from the camp accounts. If possible this amount needs to increase as our student body increases in number and talent. Our goal is to have more than the minimum raised this year.

Camp Budget
This year we encumbered a loss; however, much was due to income monies that were posted late to FY 15 instead of FY 14. We will see how it works out this year.

New Scholarship Sources/Activities
In order to stay competitive, the School of Music needs to increase its scholarship offerings. Using the camps as a funding source has a ceiling which we feel has already been reached. The School of Music will be pursuing other sources for scholarship funding (such as endowments) and would like to convert the camps to more of a recruiting tool rather than a source of income. This year we have started a concert series in the Bentwater community to raise scholarship funds. In addition, we have established 3 new endowed scholarships.
