Continue to improve sales and customer service to campus end users by implementing new technologies.


Objective
Increase Sales By Use Of Credit Card Readers
Install credit card readers on vending machines thus giving faculty, staff and students an alternative method of payment.

Measure the increase in sales on the vending machines with card readers from 2011-2012 to 2012-2013.

Result
Increase In Sales
The Vending Deparement was incapable of installing credit card readers on machines until March 2013.  The reason being, negotiations had to be held with the vendor on the contract for credit card services and the TSUS General Counsel had to review all agreements.  In March 2013, the Vending department installed 12 card readers (sample study).  A study was completed to document the number of credit card sales versus cash sales.  Profit margins were also studied between cash and credit card sales to ensure sale prices were adequate to cover the credit card fees.  Vending mahcine locations were asessed (prior to and after readers were installed) to establish the best value for the investment of the readers.  Vending closed FY13 (Mar - Aug) with an increase in revenue of $10, 113.00

Action
Purchase Of Credit Card Readers
Credit Card Readers were purchased by the Vending Department March 2013.  The Vending Department learned the credit card readers were successful in increasing their net revenue.  Vending's plan is to continue to add credit card readers to its other machines and monitor them.  Measurement of total sales will be taken for the 2014 Fiscal Year. 


Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement We have started implementation of the card readers to vending machines across campus, but will continue that implementation in fiscal year 2014 in order to give faculty, staff and students an alternative payment method and also increasing the revenues of vending, by capturing sales that might have otherwise been missed.

Plan for continuous improvement Vending's plan is to continue to add credit card readers to its other machines and monitor them.  Measurement of total sales will be taken for the 2014 Fiscal Year.
