Satisfactory Report Usage
The report(s) created were implemented and have proven to be sucessful.  It allowed for the departments to plan their budget for the new fiscal year detailing it to the department needs to streamline the budget process.

Enhance the reports for the departments' budget and planning process by including additional data fields that departments can utilize for their specific arenas.

Enhance Budget Development for Campus.  Update the budget process to become more automated with the budget development module within in banner.

Automation Within Budget Office
Automating the budget process would eliminate the excel spreadsheet within the budget development process and place entry of merit increases with the end campus users.   Participant feedback will be collected based on satisfaction with the experience, productivity of the process,  and satisfaction with the outcome to determine the value of repeating in the future.

Automation Updates
By automating the budget process the Dean of the Academic College's office as well as other departments are capable of entering their budget into Banner through the budget development module.  Participant feedback showed that the process was a success and will continue to improve as the staff becomes more knowledgeable of how the system works.


Action
Further Improvements To Automation Process
Further Improvements to the budget process would include expecting the users to take ownership of their budget entries and enter their budget in its entirety therefore eliminating the need for some of the budget changes.  Utilizing the knowledge of the Automation process from this year the departments will be more equipped for the future.

Implementation Of Kuali Business Continuity Plan During Fiscal Year 2013
Full implementation of the Kuali Business Continuity Plan is the goal for Fiscal Year 2013.  Upon setting a plan in place utilizing Kuali Ready, the Controller's office will have the ability to maintain operational status in the event that the general operations of SHSU were to shut down.   

Result
Significant Advances In Implementation Of Kuali Business Continuity Plan
The majority of the departments have completed the implementation of the plan.  The Controller's Office has sucessfully completed the process with regards to the financial reporting and general accounting as well as activity in the Bursars'.  Payroll has made significant gains and are about 70% complete while Disbursements and Travel Services are roughly 50% through the process.

The expected completion date for the remaining offices is the end of November 2013.

Continue to seek out professional development for Financial Services’ staff and to explore new methods of obtaining staff training and development in order to get the most out of our training budgets.

Result
Maximizing Training Budgets And Opportunities
Staff had oportunities to attend development programs and a general staff development day that incorporated a staff appreciation luncheon was also conducted this year.  Other training programs are being implemented under talent Management to utilize appropriate traing to the best of our ability while maximizing our potential within the training budget.

Action
Future Professional Development Opportunities
The process of providing future opportunities for professional staff development necessary to the functions of our staff include new web based training programs that are currently in the works.  We will also strive for the development of additional training and devoplment that will enhance our staff's capabilities and get the most out of our training budgets. 



Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement The Controller's Office has significantly improved HRIS reporting with training Human Resources to help with the reporting as well as improving training programs.  Bursar's has not created a training program yet for students but they increased communication to students as to dealing with issues that needed to be resolved.  On the other end of the spectrum the Budget office completed the projected budget for FY13 and made adjustments to streamline the automation process.

Plan for continuous improvement Financial Services' plans for improvement are multi- faceted. Working together with the Vice President of Finance on any issue required as well as staying in close contact with the departments that report to Financial Services will help resolve problems in a more efficient manner. We have hired a new employee to assist with report development and analysis in order to focus more on dashboards and providing information to executive administration in a timely manner.

In the Budget office we have plans to collaborate with other departments as to how the automation process could run more smoothly for them now that they have had a chance to utilize it.

The Controller's Office will be working to finish the Kuali Ready for business continuity and are scheduled to have it completed by November 2013.

There is also a strong focus in the coming year with regards to training. The continued development of Talent Management will help increase training opportunities among our staff.
