Leadership Development
Cadets will learn basic and advanced leadership skills as they progress throughout school. Leadership responsibilities will increase as the Cadets progress from freshman to senior year. We will maximize the use of professional online leader development forums. This will connect Cadets with Lieutenants serving throughout the world as well as with Cadets from the United States Military Academy and ROTC programs throughout the country.

Cadets are required to complete off-campus training programs, including the Leadership Development and Assessment Course (LDAC), and a degree plan that places extensive classroom emphasis on leadership.

Targeted recruiting efforts for Scholar/Athlete/Leaders using Army and University resources. Provide a marketing strategy that reaches high schools, prior and current military service members, community colleges, and SHSU students. We will support the newly created Veteran's Resource Center on campus. We will include our website, the availability of the Veteran's Resource Center and outreach to Active Duty soldiers as part of our marketing, advertising and information strategies.

The Military Science department exceeded the expectations in all three Enrollment/Recruitment areas - Student Enrollment, Recruiting/Marketing Efforts, Community Service Events. The targets for 2013-2014 will be 126 students enrolled, 50 career fairs, and 35 community and university related events. Cadet Command does not require community service events; therefore, the target will remain the same as 2012-2013.

The number of Cadets commissioned must be equal to or greater than the Army's expectation of 20. We will commission a minimum of 20 officers IAW Army commissioning mission.

The Commission Mission goal of 20 officers was met. There were a total of 23 Cadets that commissioned during 2012-2013.

Graduation
Graduate all Senior Cadets in order to meet commission mission. We will monitor Cadet progress in order for them to meet graduation requirements. Methods will include active involvement in instruction, visiting students' classes outside of Military Science, and referring students to the SAM Center and other campus resources when appropriate.

Cadet academic progress was closely monitored in all courses. Cadet grades and class absences were tracked, and all Cadets that were not showing sufficient academic progress were required to attend study sessions and courses offered through the SAM Center.

The Army's commissioning minimum set for 2013-2014 will be adopted. All at-risk students will be identified and provided with mentoring to ensure that the goal of graduating all senior cadets will be met.
