Recruit candidates through coordinating efforts with the Office of Graduate Studies and the College of Education Graduate Recruitment Committee to expand the Department of Library Science's program outreach beyond the State of Texas.

Because of reduced scholarship opportunities, we saw a decline in enrollment last year. We look forward to determining if our additional recruiting tools are able to begin an incline again.

The number of graduate candidates enrolled in the Library Science program decreased over the course of the 2012-2013 academic year. In Summer 2012 the Library Science program had 152 graduate candidates enrolled. By Summer 2013 enrollment in the program had dropped to 120 graduate candidates.

The Department will recruit at new venues in 2013-2014. In the exhibit booth, contact information will be collected from potential applicants. In the past, information has been disseminated from the booth but not collected. A plan for following up with the potential applicants will be developed and implemented.

Work in conjunction with other College of Education Departments to develop cooperative programs at the graduate level that enrich and enhance of candidates.

In Fall 2012, the Department of Library Science entered into discussions with the College of Education Reading program in the Department of Language, Literacy and Special Populations (LLSP). A program was developed for the Reading Ed.D. with a Library Science specialization. Currently, both departments are recruiting for a cohort to begin Summer 2014.

Departmental Day
Monday will be designated as the day for faculty members to be present and meet in order to build professional community. Departmental meetings will be scheduled on this day. The goal is to have 80% of faculty members present at each meeting.
This is a new objective for 2012-2013, so we will be gathering baseline data.

Results For Departmental Day
During the course of 2012-2013 academic year, faculty members were not consistently present on Mondays. However, attendance was 100% for Departmental bi-monthly meetings with the exception of three instances where the attendance was 83%.

Since the Department has seen such good results from the attendance at the Departmental meetings, in 2013-2014 meetings will be scheduled weekly.
