Candidate Recruitment
Increase candidate enrollment in Department of Library Science Programs.

Objective
Recruitment Of Candidates
Recruit candidates by advertising in various journals associated with the fields of education, educational technology, and school librarianship, and hold exhibits at educational and school library related events.

KPI
Recruitment Of Candidates
Enrollment of candidates in Library Science courses will increase by 5% through both individual candidates and cohort groups.

Result
Recruitment Of Candidates
During 2011-2012, our Department graduated a large number of candidates. Many of these candidates were recipients of either the IMLS grant or Graduate Studies scholarship. As a result enrollment declined from 269 to 163 when grants and scholarships were no longer available.  


Action
Recruitment Of Candidates
Future plans include recruiting within Texas. The Department will also begin recruiting nationwide in spring 2013 for the Library Science online program. We will also be looking for grants/scholarships to support graduate students.

Goal
Cooperative Teaching And Learning Within College Of Education
Work in conjunction with other College of Education Departments to develop cooperative programs at the graduate level that enrich and enhance of candidates.

Cooperative Teaching And Learning
Contact interested chairs of College of Education graduate programs involved with literacy, leadership, and technology and collaborate on providing information about how the school librarian can assist in literacy learning, leading, and teaching.

After our success last year with adding a cognate in Library Science with a doctorate in Educational Leadership, we are planning to initiate at least on additional cooperative program with a department in the College of Education.

A cooperative Master of Education with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction is being offered Summer II 2012 at the University Park campus.

Action

Additional cooperative efforts to explore within the College of Education exist. Possibilities include a Master of Education in Instructional Technology or Master of Education in Reading. The Department is also exploring additional initiatives at the doctoral level.

Increase the Department of Library Science faculty productivity through contributions to the field in publications, presentations, and professional development.

KPI
Faculty Publications
Each professor in the Department of Library Science will retain or increase the level of publication compared to that of the previous year as reflected on FES (Faculty Evaluation System). We are working to support the faculty who showed no increase last year and are eager to determine whether our interventions have been effective.

All but one faculty member has documented that her publications equal or exceed in number those from the previous year.

Each professor in the Department of Library Science will maintain or increase the level of presentations compared to that of the previous year as reflected on FES (Faculty Evaluation System). Additional support for the two faculty members who showed no increase last year in presentations will be provided.

Support and promote the increase of faculty productivity through contributions to the field in publications, presentations, and professional development. We want to double our efforts to assist the one faculty member to increase productivity.


Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement As indicated in the actions for the 2011-2012, the Department of Library Science intends to move forward with the goals that are in place. In regard to the recruitment of candidates, the Department’s efforts will be ongoing concentrating not only on recruiting within the state, but also nationwide for the online program and keeping an eye out for scholarships and grants for graduate students. With respect to cooperative teaching and learning with the College of Education, the Department is exploring additional initiatives besides the Master of Education in Curriculum Instruction that is currently being offered. Finally, the Library Science faculty will seek a high rate of productivity through contributions to the field in publications, presentations, and professional development.
