The summary of scores for the percentage of Health and Kinesiology on-line, face-to-face, and hybrid classes taught by the tenured, tenure track, and adjunct faculty at or above the IDEA Database average for the Spring 2012 semester was 90% (raw) and 76% (adjusted). This objective was met using the raw teaching evaluations scores that are recommended in the IDEA guidelines.
The summary of scores for the percentage of Health and Kinesiology on-line, face-to-face, and hybrid classes taught by the tenured and tenure track faculty at or above the IDEA Database average for the Fall 2011 semester was 92%. During this semester, 25 classes taught by the tenured and tenure track faculty received teaching evaluation scores that were at or above the IDEA Database average; while 2 classes taught by the tenured and tenure track faculty received teaching evaluation scores that were below the IDEA Database average. The summary of scores for the percentage of Health and Kinesiology on-line, face-to-face, and hybrid classes taught by the tenured and tenure track faculty at or above the IDEA Database average for the Spring 2012 semester was 83%. During this semester, 28 classes taught by the tenured and tenure track faculty received teaching evaluation scores that were at or above the IDEA Database average; while 5 classes taught by the tenured and tenure track faculty received teaching evaluation scores that were below the IDEA Database average. This objective was met.
We had hoped for better ratings for the tenure/tenure track faculty, an area in which we can improve. We also need to track scores for new faculty and provide mentoring in necessary.
Action
Teaching Effectiveness
The IDEA teaching evaluations for the 2011-2012 academic year indicate that 91.5% of all of the Health and Kinesiology courses taught by tenured, tenure-track, and adjunct faculty were at or above the IDEA Database average. This percentage rate exceeds the 2010-2011 rate of 80%. The IDEA teaching evaluations for the 2011-2012 academic year indicate that 87% of all of the Health and Kinesiology courses taught by tenured and tenure-track faculty were at or above the IDEA Database average. Data from the 2010-2011 IDEA scores for the tenured and tenure track faculty were not available for comparison. The department will seek to be rated at or above the IDEA Database during the next academic year.
Our newest faculty members will likely need mentoring to increase their IDEA evaluation scores. Our interventions will be to attend the 2012 Teaching Conference in August and to seek assistance from the Professional and Academic Center for Excellence (PACE) throughout the year.
Goal
Department Highlights
The Department of Health and Kinesiology will provide effective communication with internal and external constituencies through a department bi-monthly report called the Highlights.
Objective
Department Highlights
The Department of Health and Kinesiology will publish a report called the Highlights two times a month to be distributed to internal and external constituencies. The Highlights will feature the events and achievements of the department (faculty, staff, and students). In addition, the report will spotlight outstanding student activities, accomplishments, and scholarships awarded during the academic year. The report will be forwarded to the Dean’s Office in the College of Education on the first and fifteenth of each month.
KPI
Highlights Report
On the first and fifteenth of each month, the editor of the department Highlights will request news from the faculty. The editor will review and compile the submissions for the report and issue them to the faculty and Chair of the Department for review. The editor will be responsible for submitting the Highlights to the College of Education, Office of the Dean, on the designated dates of the month.
Result
Department Highlights
During the 2011-2012 academic year, the Highlights report was submitted to the office of the Dean, College of Education every month on the 1st and 15th as requested 100% of the time. The target was achieved.
Action
Department Highlights
The Department of Health and Kinesiology was successful with publishing and submitting the Highlights report on the 1st and 15th of each month. The academic calendar format of the Highlights indicated the dates of the academic year when classes were not in session and requests for news items in the Hightlights were not warranted. The office of the Dean reported that the reports were always submitted on time and were most informative. We will sustain this worthy exercise of reporting the highlights of the faculty, staff and students' accomplishments and successes. This venue has provided an excellent way for every one to see the achievements of each other. The report is most inspiring and encouraging to all.
This will be our last year to include Department Highlights as part of the department goals since we are consistently hitting 100% achievement.
Goal
Promotion Of Faculty Scholarship
The Health and Kinesiology Faculty will exhibit scholarly productivity on an annual basis.
Objective
Faculty Scholarship
The Health and Kinesiology tenured and tenure track faculty will demonstrate professional scholarship through a variety of publications, presentations, and grants each year.
KPI
Evidence Of Scholarship
The Health and Kinesiology faculty will successfully publish, or present scholarly research in books, professional journals; conduct research and scholarly presentations at state, national, or international conferences; and / or secure state or national level grants each academic year.
At least 90 percent of the Health and Kinesiology tenured and tenure track faculty will publish, or present scholarly research in books, professional journals; conduct research and scholarly presentations at state, national, or international conferences; and / or secure state or national level grants each academic year.
Result
Faculty Scholarship
During the 2011-2012 academic year, 100% of the H & K tenure/tenure track faculty presented at least one paper at a professional conference. 100% of tenured faculty had at least one published article during the same time frame, 90% of the tenure track faculty had at least one published article during this academic year, and 50% of the faculty had received funding for grants and awards for the 2011-2012 academic year. The target was met for the areas of professional presentations, grant acquisitions, and published articles.
The expectation of just one artcle per year per faculty member seems too low for our faculty.
Action
Faculty Scholarship
The department will promote faculty research and scholarly endeavors. More ways will be explored to increase annual productivity of tenure track faculty. In addition, creative ways will be examined for finding more dollars per faculty for sustained support of their scholarly endeavors. Given the limited funds for scholarly productivity per faculty, the accomplishments for this academic year are most rewarding and exceed the department expectations.
We will raise our criterion for next year to an average of 1.5 articles per faculty member.
Goal
Growth Of The Graduate Health Program
The MA Program in Health prepares students as health education specialists in the four broad areas of employment that define the discipline: community health, medical or clinical health, school health, and worksite health promotion.
Objective

Result
Growth Of The Graduate Health Program

The breakdown by semester includes 15 students in fall 2011, 7 students in spring 2012, and 7 students in summer 2012. During the same academic year, 10 students graduated from the Health Program. The breakdown by semester includes 4 students in fall 2011 and 6 students in the spring 2012.
Action
Graduate Health Program
During the 2011-2012 academic year 29 new students were admitted into the graduate Health Program. During the same academic year, 10 students graduated from the Health Program. The goal was met during the 2011-2012 academic year. The faculty in the department will actively recruit capable students for the graduate Health Program. Additional on-line courses are replacing the face-to-face class format which is appealing to graduate students.
