Enrollment Numbers
Overall enrollment numbers for the Department did not increase for the 2011-2012 academic year. However, enrollment in the doctoral programs and the higher education master's program increased. Student persistence rates were stable across all programs.

Action
Recruitment Efforts
The taskforce for recruitment works on strategies to increase enrollment in the master's programs.  Program showcases have been conducted. A mass mailing of t-shirts and program information was sent to all school districts in the greater Houston area.  Increased scholarship opportunities have also been created, which did help increase enrollment for the summer 2012 semester.  These efforts will be ongoing and additional strategies will also be implemented.

Goal
Excellence In Teaching, Research, And Service
The Department Faculty will strive for excellence in Teaching, Research, and Service.

Objective
FES
All faculty will engage in research, teaching, and service.

KPI
Faculty Evaluation System
Faculty are evaluated per University guidelines on research, teaching, and service.  Faculty must be actively engaged in sustained efforts that demonstrate effective research (evidenced by an average of at least one publication per year), teaching (evidenced by student evaluation scores on IDEA that meet department expectations), and service (evidenced by documented service activities to the department, college, university, and academic community at large).  100% of faculty in the department will meet or exceed the minimum expectations in all three areas.

Result
Faculty Performance
As evaluated by the Department Promotion and Tenure Action Committee (DPTAC), 100% of  faculty met or exceeded minimum  expectations in teaching, research, and service.  The DPTAC unanimously voted to grant two faculty members promotion to associate professor with tenure.  Three full professors also received positive results from post-tenure review.

Action
Faculty Performance
All faculty met expectations in this area.  Two new faculty began in September 2011 and one new faculty member was hired in January 2012; all three have been assigned faculty mentors to help ensure that they meet expectations in teaching, service, and research.

Objective
Constituent Satisfaction

KPI
Feedback From Advisory Committee
An advisory committee for each master's and doctoral level program will provide feedback regarding their satisfaction with the EDLC programs and specializations.  All programs (100% of department programs) will implement advisory council feedback as a component of continuous improvement efforts.

Result
Advisory Committee Responses
Minutes from program-specific advisory committees are attached.

Action
Feedback
Each program area received specific feedback from its corresponding Advisory Council and will implement feedback accordingly. The Higher Education Administration program has already begun implementing advisory council feedback through submissions to the University Curriculum Committee for new course additions and curricular changes to the degree program.  The Counseling program areas have also begun implementing feedback through efforts that are taking place at the new clinic in The Woodlands Center. Implementation of feedback in these and other program areas will be ongoing throughout the 2012-13 academic year.

Action
Weaknesses Addressed
The committee to improve TExES scores for the principal preparation program will meet and work on strategies. Master syllabi have been developed and curricula have been aligned. Specific work with adjunct professors has also taken place. Work in these areas is ongoing in order to further improve the results that have begun to take place.

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement Department efforts for recruitment will be ongoing.   All faculty who were put forward for promotion, tenure, and post tenure review were successful in meeting expectations in the areas of teaching, research, and service. One new faculty member was hired and began teaching in January 2012; one additional faculty member was hired and will begin teaching in Fall 2012.  Mentors will be assigned to these faculty members to ensure they meet expectations as well.  A committee was formed to address less than satisfactory TExES results; strategies have been implemented and scores have improved slightly.  Additional procedures are being put into place in 2012 related to curricular alignment and working with adjunct professors.  Each program area received feedback from its corresponding Advisory Council and will implement feedback appropriately.
