Goal
Career Services - Student Recruitment/Retention Support And Graduate Success Programs
Provide support programs to align with University and Division of Enrollment Management's goals of quality student recruitment, retention and graduate success.

Objective
Early Major/Career Choice Identification
Career Services will provide support to enable students to identify a major/career path their first academic year.

KPI
Collaboration With The Office Of Student Success Initiatives, SAM Center, And New Student Orientation Programs
Collaboration with the Office of Student Success Initiatives, New Student Orientation and the SAM Center to initiate programs to encourage early identification of major and/or career path choice. Our goal is to have 80% of students attending the Fair to indicate the event met their expectations.

Result
The 2011 Choosing A Major Fair Was Co-sponsored By SHSU Career Services And The Student Success Initiatives Office.
The Choosing a Major Fair was held on November 1, 2011 with 141 students attending the event.

The result was 91 percent (73/80) of the students completing a survey at the conclusion of the event indicated that the Choosing a Major event met their expectations.

Action
The Choosing A Major Fair Will Be Continued With Program Modifications
The Choosing a Major Fair will be held in the Fall 2012 semester.  Based on academic departments' feedback on their program evaluations administered following the 2011 event, the event will be held earlier in the semester and the hours of the event will be shortened.

Objective
Increase Awareness And Participation In Student Employment Opportunities
Increase both on-campus employers and students' awareness and participation in Student Employment opportunities for both Work-study and Student Assistant positions. 


KPI
Student Employment Posting Policy Will Be Implemented
Through the assistance and direction of the SHSU Human Resources Department, a policy requiring all on-campus jobs to be posted in one location will be approved by the Administration.


Result
Finance & Operations Human Resources Policy E-7 Is Implemented
 The SHSU Human Resources Department's Policy E-7 was implemented beginning Fall 2011. 

On-campus student employment jobs increased from 160 postings in 2010-2011 academic year to 489 postings in 2011-2012.  This represents an increase of 206 % while Work-Study on-campus jobs increased from 200 to 283 during the same time for an increase of 42%.


Action
The Student Employment Job Posting Policy Will Be Implemented.
SHSU Human Resources' Policy E7 concerning the posting of on-campus jobs will be in place during the 2012-2013 academic year to increase awareness and participation in the Student Employment program.



Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement Accomplishments during the 2011-2012 academic year included the hiring and training of two new staff members in addition to the progress made toward completing the three goals listed above.  Plans began to implement additional career fairs, the Nursing Job Fair and a small career fair for the Woodlands campus students in the upcoming year.


For 2012-2013, the Choosing a Major Fair will be shortened and held earlier in the semester.  We will also work to increase awareness and participation in the Student Employment program.
