Health Content Knowledge
Content knowledge will be emphasized within the Health BS program


Objective
Health Content Knowledge
Students in the Health BS program will be able to effectively identify the role of the health educator as well as the skills required for that role.  

Indicator
Health Content Knowledge
Common embedded portions of HLTH 1360, Introduction to Health Education and Health Careers, are exams and projects developed by the faculty that require students to identify correctly the role of the health educator as well as the skills required for that role.


Criterion
Health Content Knowledge
Students must score 85 percent on the exams and projects that describe the role of the health educator as well as the skills required for the role in the profession of Health Education.


Finding
Health Content Knowledge
95.29 percent of the students met the minimum 85 percent criterion on the embedded questions in the Final Exam that focused on the role of the Health Educator and the skills required to be a successful professional in the field of Community Health. A total of 64 students took the exam and 57 met the criterion established in the goal.

 


Action
Health Content Knowledge
After a review of the findings, the Health faculty determined that health students had demonstrated mastery in the content area of the role and skills of a Health Educator. Only 4.71 percent (N=7) of the students failed to meet the minimum criterion established in the program goal. The Health program faculty is pleased that the goal was achieved; however, the faculty plans to increase course activities in the curriculum that will emphasize the importance of these concepts in the area of Community Health.

Ethical Behavior
Students in the Health BS Program will understand the ethical and professional standards for health educators.

Objective
Ethical Behavior
Students in the Health BS Program will be able to effectively define ethics and apply the Code of Ethics for the Health Education Profession.


Indicator
Ethical Behavior
As developed by the faculty, a common embedded portion of the HLTH 1360 course will require students to define ethics, morals, rights, and apply the Code of Ethics for the Health Education Profession. The Code of Ethics for the Health Profession was developed by the American Association for Health Education.


Criterion
Ethical Behavior
Students must score at least 85 percent correct on the common embedded code of ethics tests and assignments in the HLTH 1360 course.


Finding
Ethics And Professional Standards
100 percent (N=65) of the Health BS students met the minimum 85 percent criterion on the embedded exam questions in Exam 2 focusing on ethical and professional standards for health educators. 100 percent (N=67) of the Health students met the minimum 85 percent criterion on the “Code of Ethics Lab” assignment that analyzed ethical situations in the field of Community Health.

Program planning skills will be emphasized in the Health BS program.

Objective
Program Planning Skills
Health BS students will be able to effectively develop a health program plan that will address the needs for a specific target population. The plan will utilize the PRECEDE / PROCEED framework for designed for prevention based community health program planning.

Indicator
Health Program Plan
Using a common rubric developed by the Health faculty, students will be required to develop a health program plan designed for a specific at-risk target population.

Criterion
Health Program Plan
Students must score a minimum of 85 percent on the Health Program Plan designed to meet a specific need of an at-risk target population.

Finding
Health Program Plan
100 percent (N=71) of the Health BS students met the minimum 85 percent criterion on the development of a prevention based community program plan designed to meet a need of a specific at-risk target population.

 

 


Action
Health Program Plan
After a review of the findings, the Health faculty determined that health students had demonstrated mastery in the area of prevention based community health program planning. The assignment is conducted as a group task. Each student is evaluated by the instructor and members of the group. The Health program faculty is pleased that the goal was achieved and will maintain the course requirements in the program. The faculty plans to increase program activities and exam questions that assess students' knowledge of health program planning skills for specific target populations.

 

 



Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement After reviewing all of the findings, it was noted that the majority Health BS students met or exceeded each of the criterion established for all of the program goals. The Health program faculty values the rigor of the assignments identified in the program goals and wishes to make these requirements ongoing in courses taught in the Health BS Program and to add additional concept-relevant activities.. The faculty also realizes that additional criterion may need to be identified and established for the 2012-2013 academic year to enhance the learning outcomes of the students enrolled in the program.
