Indicator
Reading Strategy Presentation Evaluation B
Students will complete reading strategy presentation evaluation.

Criterion

After presentation, 90% of students will name reading strategy acronym and for what each letter stands.

Finding
Reading Strategy Success
We had 66 presentations Fall 2011 and 27 presentations Spring 2012.  Over 90% of participants were able to recall the Reading Acronym. We need to consider raising the criterion or retiring this objective.

Action
Raising Criterion
We will raise our criterion to 95% for 2012-2013.

Objective
Time Management Strategy Knowledge
After Reading Center presentation, students will successfully identify one time management strategy.

Indicator
Reading Strategy Presentation Evaluation A
Students will complete reading strategy presentation evaluation.

Criterion
Time Management Strategy Awareness
After presentation, 95% of students will name one time management strategy.

Finding
Criterion Reached
We easily reached the 95% criterion of naming at least one time management strategy.  We need to determine how to challenge students in this area.

Action
Raise Criterion
It will be hard to top what students are already achieving; thus, we will ask participants to name at least two time management strategies at the 90% standard for 2012-2013.

Goal
Reading Center Tutoring Effectiveness
To assist students and community members with criticsl reading and thinking strategies.

Objective
Increase Client Knowledge Of Textbook Reading Strategies
The Reading Center will provide tutoring services that facilitate the growth and confidence of all students and community members by promoting research-based best practice reading strategies for expository texts.

Indicator
Tutoring Session Satisfaction Survey
After each tutoring session, clients will complete Tutoring Session Satisfaction Survey to indicate quality and effectiveness of tutoring session.

Criterion
Mean Score On Tutoring Session Satisfaction Survey
The mean satisfaction score for all clients completing Tutoring Session Satisfaction Survey will be at least "3.5" on a Likert scale ranging from 1-5, with "1" indicating the least effectiveness and "5" indicating the most effectiveness.

Finding
Criterion Surpassed
The criterion was 3.5 average for tutoring satisfaction.  The result was between 3.7 and 4.0.  We will need to raise our criterion for tutoring satisfaction.

Action
Criterion Raised
Since we passed the 3.5 standard easily, we will raise the criterion to an average of 4.0 or better regarding tutoring satisfaction.

Students logs into the Reading Center database when entering and departing the Reading Center.  Individual student reports are printed and given to developmental reading students every other week throughout the semester.

Criterion
Hours In Reading Center
To be successful in developmental reading, students are required to spend 15 hours in the Reading Center working on homework or computerized tutorials.

Finding
Logical Consequences
Approximately 98% completed the required 15 hours in the Reading Center.  As promised, the two percent had to repeat the course.

Indicator
Nelson/Denny Vocabulary And Reading Comprehension Test
Developmental reading students are administered a pre- and post- Nelson/Denny Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension test.

Criterion
Nelson/Denny Vocabulary And Reading Comprehension Test Scores
Developmental reading students are administered the Nelson/Denny test at the beginning of the semester to inform instructor and student of vocabulary and reading comprehension proficiency with no required attainment level.  At the end of each semester students are administered the Nelson/Denny post-test on which they are required to attain a 11th grade vocabulary and reading comprehension level.

Finding
Progress
Twelve out of 72 participants (or 83%) did not reach the 11th grade level required.  We want to set the standard higher for next year.

Indicator
Reading Road Trip Diagnostic Reports
Developmental reading students are required to complete 15 MyReadingLab computerized tutorials that complement homework assignments and guided practice and discussion in the classroom.

Criterion
MyReadingLab Computerized Tutorials
Developmental reading students are required to complete 15 Reading Road Trip lessons attaining at least 80% on one practice exercise and one mastery test.

Finding
95% Success
We were delighted that, once again, 95% of students met the criterion.  We will consider how to stretch students' success.

Action
Developmental Reading
We hope to reach 100% of students in compliance with the 15-hour requirement to be in Reading Center.  We will raise our criterion to 85% of students reaching the 11th grade level on the vocabulary and reading comprehension portions of the NDRT.  Finally, we are going to repeat the computerized tutorials to determine if this rate is consistent or an anomaly.  If it is consistent, we will reitre this and choose another area to improve.

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement We have been successful with the presentations to classrooms.  We are raising our standard for the Reading Strategy Acronym to 95% of students.  The time management strategies are already at 95% for recalling at least one strategy.  We propose to raise the standard by requiring at least two time management strategies at the 90% success level for 12-13.  The criterion for tutor satisfaction will be raised to an average of 4.0 or better on a 5.0-point scale. We are striving for 100% of developmental students to spend at least 15 hours in the Reading Center completing homework or computerized tutorials.  We will work toward a criterion of 85% of developmental students reaching the 11th-grade-level by end of each semester in 2012-2013. The reading road trip diagnostic/computerized tutorials have been very successful for two years now.  We will repeat this criterion one more year to determine whether the success is consistent or an anomaly.
