Common embedded portions of HED 160, Introduction to Health Education and Health Careers, are exams and projects developed by the faculty that require students to identify correctly the role of the health educator as well as the skills required for that role.

Students must score at least 80% correct on all common embedded exams and projects assessing for content mastery of the role of the health educator as well as the skills required for that role.

85% of the students met the 80% target on all common embedded exams and projects assessing for content mastery of the role of the health educator as well as the skills required for that role. 10% of the students exceeded the target, and 5% did not meet target. Although only 5% did not meet the target score, the faculty believe more work is needed to allow students to master concepts of health professional role and skills.

After a review of the findings, the faculty indentified the following weaknesses in the students work related to the role of the health educator and the skills required for that role. 5% of the students did not demonstrate mastery of the concepts regarding the role and skills of the health educator; therefore, the faculty have decided to increase the number of required embedded tasks regarding the role and required skills of the health educator. All core health classes will have at least three faculty-developed assessments related to the role and skills required of the health educator.

Students in the Health BS Program will be able to define ethics and apply the Code of Ethics for the Health Education Profession.

Ethical Assessment
A common embedded portion of the HED 160 course projects and exams developed by the faculty will require students to define code of ethics and apply the Code of Ethics for the Health Education profession. The Code of Ethics for the Health Profession was developed by the American Public Health Association.

After a review of the findings, the faculty identified the following weaknesses in the students work related to ethical behavior. 5% of the students did not meet the target set for this objective; therefore, the faculty have decided to increase the number of required embedded code of ethics for the health education profession assignments/exams. All core health classes will have at least three faculty-developed assessments related to health education profession code of ethics. Last year, the results indicated vocabulary development and application of ethical standards had been problematic, and 10% failed to reach the target goal. This year, the percentage was less at 5%.

Communication skills will be emphasized in the Health BS program.

Health BS Fitness students will be able to communicate effectively his or her philosophy of health education.

Communication
Using a common rubric developed by the faculty, students will be required to write a two-page paper expressing his/her philosophy of health education.

Students must communicate effectively his /her philosophy of a health educator in the common embedded written paper assignment.

75% of the students met the target of effectively communicating his/her philosophy of a health educator. 20% of the students exceeded the target and 5% of the students did not meet the target.

After a review of the findings, the faculty identified the following weaknesses in the students work related to communication. 5% of the students did not demonstrate master of communicating effectively his/her philosophy of health education. All core health classes will have at least three faculty-developed assessments related to effective communication. Assessments will focus on mechanics, grammar, sentence structure, and basic presentation skills. These were the same weaknesses as last year. We will need to intensify our efforts in these areas.
