2010 - 2011

Residence Life

Goal
Enhanced Techology
Continue to enhance technological changes in Residence Life

Objective
Installation Of Surveillance Cameras
Residence Life will update the installation of surveillance cameras in residence halls

Indicator
Reported Vandalism
The amount of vandalism that occurs in the residence halls will be measured based on the monetary amount reported by residence hall staff each fiscal year.

Criterion
Reduction In Vandalism Rates
Vandalism rates will be close to or mirror rate reported in 2009-10, which was a total of $2912.00.

Finding
Expected Constant Or Reduced Vandalism Rate
The amount of money billed for vandalism for the Academic Year 2010-2011 was expected to be close to or less than last year's total.  This year we billed a total of $2073.00, which is a slight decrease.

Action
Installation Of New Surveillance Cameras
Residence Life will update the plan to install cameras in public areas of all residence halls.  Lone Star Hall, our newest hall is in process of having cameras installed as part of the new construction package.  Elliott Hall was not done this year as expected due to budgetary concerns, but will be on the project list for next year.

Goal
Program Development
Demonstrate continuous program development/enhancement

Objective
Residence Hall Programming
Student residents are provided with educational and social programming opportunities to facilitate personal growth and development.

Indicator
Quality Of Life Survey (regarding General Hall Programming)
Specific questions within our Quality of Life survey will measure the success of, and participation in, general hall programming in the areas of Wellness, Diversity, Life Skills, Social Issues and the like.

Criterion
Demonstrated Student Satisfaction With Residence Hall Programming
At least 60% of student surveys will show a positive reaction to, and attendance at, residence hall programs provided by hall staff.

Finding
Expected Satisfaction With General Hall Programming
Only 32.42% of students responding to the survey said that they have attended hall programs, and only 18.12% of the respondents felt that the programs increased their awareness of social issues and solutions.  However, 61.41% felt that they were given adequate opportunities for social interaction with other residents.

Action
Improvement In Hall Programming
The percentages seem very similar to the last few years; however, in analyzing the data, we believe the results are insignificant due to the low percentage of respondents (355 of 3003 residents - app 11% return rate).  Even fewer answered the questions regarding residence hall programming.  At this time, the department will continue with the current model of residence hall programming and look for a different way to measure this goal.

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement Residence Life is committed to installing more cameras in hallways and public areas and expects that the vandalism rate will level off or continue to decrease from previous years.  Residents are still not responding to the Quality of Life Survey in numbers that would make results meaningful.  Staff will continue to attempt to find a way to improve the residents' desire to provide feedback.
