Goal
Improve Proposal And Post Award Process
Improve the proposal submission process including mechanisms to aid the faculty in the preparation of proposals, electronically routing for approvals and electronic sumbission of proposals to grants.gov as well as improving the post award process of accounting.

Proposals submitted by our office will be accepted for review by the sponsor.

We are looking to have 100% of submitted proposals accepted by sponsors.

Finding
90% Acceptance
Although we did not meet the 100% goal, we were pleased that 90% of our submissions were accepted. This is a huge increase from 70% - 75% acceptance in previous years.

Action
Expansion And Training
We are making changes to our software package to address more of the proposals that we submit.  We are also providing faculty training regarding putting proposals online.

Improve Data Related To Contract Management
Improve data collection and reporting including compliance.

Feedback from the principal investigators, as well as internal, state, and federal auditors.

1.  Are principal investigators successfully managing their projects?

Finding
Results
1. 80% of principal investigators are judged to be successfully managing their projects.

2. Although we want zero exceptions on the audits, we have decreased to approximately 10 exceptions this year.

Action
Training
Expanding training efforts and continuing to modify reports to meet the needs of the principal investigator.  Exceptional reports will be generated to identify and address exceptions.  We are training research accountants.


Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement Software enhancements are being determined to assist principal investigators with online proposal submission.  Training is planned for faculty using the software.  Modification of reports to meet principal investigator needs as well as resarch accountant training is planned. We will use exceptional reports to identify and address exceptions.
