We will maximize the use of professional online leader development forums. This will connect Cadets with Lieutenants serving throughout the world as well as with Cadets from the United States Military Academy and ROTC programs throughout the country.

Our degree plan and training programs meet the standards and requirements dictated by the US Army. Our leadership training initiatives incorporate the use of MILSPACE, an online Platoon Leader forum in which our Cadets participate along with Cadets from the United States Military Academy at West Point. In the spring 2011 our Cadets conducted a battle analysis of the Battle of Takur Ghar, "Operation Anaconda". We were able to bring in a guest speaker, Nate Self, the author of the book Two Wars detailing his involvement in this battle and an expert on leader development and veterans initiatives to address Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He was able to provide valuable insight and training to our Cadets.
Action
Leadership Development
We were able to host two guest speakers this academic year. One guest speaker, Jimmie Edwards, is a combat veteran double amputee who served two terms as a Texas State Representative, is a former Montgomery County Judge, and went on to become an influential business leader. Our Cadets had interactions with several professional organizations and were featured in two different nationally published articles highlighting our partnership with the Military Officers Association of America. We had a visit by a team from Washington, D.C. to identify the best practices from our community, specifically the university's interaction with the community and its military veterans. Three of our students were able to participate in a Leader Development Conference where they were able to interact with 1,000 West Point Cadets as well as leaders from across the Army over a three day period at the United States Military Academy. Our students were able to brief senior tactical commanders at West Point on the best practices here at Sam Houston State. We also had one Cadet as the George C. Marshall Award recipient and participated in a week long conference that included development sessions witht he Army's senior leaders.
