During a juried performance the student will demonstrate proficiency in character development including effective movement, playing objectives, textual clarity, and vocal energy.. A juried performance is one which is sanctioned by the SHSU Theater program either on campus or off campus. The jury consists of SHSU Theater faculty.

90% of the student performances will be judged by SHSU faculty juries to be demonstrating excellence in all areas stated in the learning objective

Juried Results
85% of student performances were judged by SHSU to demonstrate excellence in all the areas stated. Weaknesses that emerged were character develoment, objective playing, textual clarity, and vocal energy.

One-to-one discussions between faculty and students will continue to provide specific instruction and feedback. A developing learning activity will be to have students perform a jury before faculty members to determine their readiness to continue in the BFA program.

During a portfolio review Theater students with a design/tech emphasis will demonstrate proficiency in at least two of the following areas: costumes, lights, scenic design and sound design

Design/Tech Portfolio Review
Through annual portfolio review, Design/Tech students must demonstrate a degree of design/tech proficiency in a minimum of two areas specified in the olearning objective. Theater faculty assess portfolios and provide feedback in one-on-one meetings with each design/tech students.

85% of student design/tech portfolios will be assessed as "ready" to allow the student to be considered to design for the SHSU main season productions.
Finding
Design/Tech Results
70% of design/tech portfolios were judged to be ready to allow the student to be considered for the main SHSU design productions. Weaknesses that emerged were in the areas of drawing and rendering, technical knowledge of lights, sets, costumes and sounds, and the ability to communicate clearly with directors and other designers and technical staff.

One-to-one discussions between faculty and students during the design process will continue to provide specific instruction and feedback. Annual portfolio review of the design techs will continue. To address the weaknesses, the one-on-one meetings help faculty decide how to advise students regarding enrollment for specific classes.
