Criterion
Graduate Candidate Professional Presentation
The presentations during the 2009-2010 will increase from one presentation during the 2008-2009 to two.

Finding

Goal
Program Quality And Effectiveness
Program Quality and Effectiveness

Objective
American Psychological Association (APA) Publcation Format
The technology facilitator candidates in the Masters in Instructional Technology program will demonstrate APA format skills in both works cited and in internal documentation.

Indicator
Use Of APA Format On Comprehensive Exams
A comparison will be made of the number of "high pass" scores in the second cohort with the number of "high pass" scores in the third cohort related to correct use of APA format. Scoring will be performed by instructors using APA format to judge strength and weaknesses of the written responses and providing a score of 'fail' 'pass' or 'high pass.' Afterward, instructors will meet to discuss strengths and weaknesses in scored comprehensive exams.

Criterion
Comprehensive Exams Scores
The number and percentage of comp scores rated to APA format as "high pass" on the 2008-2009 results will be compared with the number and percentage of comp scores rated as "high pass" on the 2009-2010 results.

Finding
APA Format On Comprehensive Exams
Results of the 2008-2009 Comprehensive Exam administered to the Cohort II candidates in the Masters of Instructional Technology Program indicate that 0 candidates out of 34 (or 0%) scored a "High Pass" on the Exam.  Results of the 2009-2010 Comprehensive Exam administered to the Cohort III candidates in the Masters of Instructional Technology Program indicate that 3 candidates out of 11 (or 27%) scored a "High Pass" on the Exam.

The instructors' meeting to discuss strengths and weaknesses of scored comprehensive exams revealed the following weaknesses in responses regarding the use of APA formatting:
1. This student used the incorrect APA format. More references should be provided to support the statements.
2. Incorrect APA form on Works Cited.
3. No cover page, No abstract - Not all in proper APA formatting
4. No Designation of "References" (As in APA format) -- just started listing them

Action
Remediating Application Of APA Formatting Skills
In an effort to increase the percentage of Master of Instructional Technology candidates in Cohort IV who correctly practice proper APA formatting skills in their Comprehensive Exams, the APA formatting in their formal, written work being completed earlier throughout the Program (in both works cited and in internal documentation) will be monitored and assessed as part of their evaluative grades.

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement As a faculty, we will continue to encourage students to present at professional development workshops by reviewing with them any documentation feedback from conference jurors and through mentoring students in proposal submissions and presentation effectiveness.
