Common embedded portions of HED 160, Introduction to Health Education and Health Careers, are exams and projects developed by the faculty that require students to define correctly the nine terms listed in the objective.
Criterion

Students must score at least 70% correct on all common embedded exams and projects assessing for content mastery of the nine health terms listed in the objective.

80% of the students met the 70% target on all common exams and projects on the health vocabulary terms. 10% of the students exceeded the target, and 10% did not meet target.

After a review of the findings, the faculty identified the following weaknesses in the students work related to vocabulary development, recall and word recognition. 10% of the students did not demonstrate mastery of key vocabulary; therefore, the faculty have decided to increase the number of required embedded vocabulary tasks to address recall and word recognition. All core health classes will have at least three faculty-developed assessments related to vocabulary development in the field of health.

Communication skills will be emphasized in the Health BS program.

Effective Communication
Health BS Fitness students will be able to communicate effectively the role of the health educator as well as the skills required for that role.

Oral And Written Communication Evaluation
Using a common rubric developed by the faculty, students will be required to write a two-page paper explaining the role of the health educator as well as the skills required for that role.

Students must communicate effectively the role of the health educator as well as the skills required for that role in the common embedded written paper assignment.

90% of the students met the target of correctly communicating the role of the health educator as well as the skills required for that role on the writing assignment. 5% of the students did not meet the target.

After a review of the current performance of students on the communication skills assignment, the program faculty have decided that more focus and emphasis should be placed on mechanics, grammar, sentence construction, and basic presentation skills. Health core courses will include at least two common embedded oral and written assignments/projects that will address these short-falls of the students (5%) that did not meet the target.

The Health BS Program will emphasize ethical behavior.
Objective
Ethical Conduct
Students in the Health BS Program will be able to define ethics and apply the Code of Ethics for the Health Education Profession.

Ethical Assessment
A common embedded portion of the HED 160 course developed by the faculty, will require students to define code of ethics and apply the Code of Ethics for the Health Education Profession. The Code of Ethics for the Health Profession was developed by the American Public Health Association.
Criterion
Results
Students must score at least 80% correct on the common embedded code of ethics tests and assignments.
Finding

75% of the students met the 80% target on the embedded code of ethics assignments. 15% of the students exceeded the target and 10% of the students did not meet the target of 80%.

After a review of the findings the faculty have decided to continue to include embedded code of ethics assignments/tasks. 10% of the students did not met the target set for the ethical goal. Weaknesses in their work centered on lack of understanding and application of code of ethics. In an effort to address these weaknesses all core health classes will have at least three required code of ethics activities that students must perform correctly in an effort to improve thease areas of concern expressed by the faculty.
