Indicator
Graduating Senior Exhibition
The Gaddis Geeslin Gallery will exhibit the work of graduating seniors.
The student work will demonstrate and be used to evaluate:

• a proficiency in skills and techniques related to the medium used in the artwork.
• the student's ability to produce a cohesive body of work.
• the student's ability to express a concept through a work of art.
• an awareness of contemporary art and its relation to art history.

Criterion
Graduating Senior Exhibition
The Graduating Senior Exhibition will be held twice annually, at the end of the fall and spring semester.

Finding
2 Exhibitions Held
Exhibitions of work by Graduating Seniors were held at the end of each long semester. 19 students senior exhibited work December 14th-19th 2009. 32 exhibited work May 10-14, 2010.
In the first of these exhibitions, students were given few if any guidelines in terms of exhibition requirements and little advanced notice of the exhibition. In the second, held at the end of the spring semester, the exhibit was organized by students in Art 496 Museum and Gallery Practices. The students contacted the graduating seniors early in the semester and curated the exhibition from a body of work submitted by each graduating senior.
The second exhibition was a more useful tool for evaluating the students work. however, the large number of students made it difficult to exhibit a significant quantity of work by each student.
The Graduating Senior Exhibition is useful way to promote the work of all of the graduating art students, but an ineffective means of teaching the skills needed for an artist to mount an exhibit of their work and for faculty to evaluate this.

Indicator

Every full time art student will be allowed to submit up to 3 artworks in any medium. The juror will choose artworks to be in an exhibition. Awards will be given to Best of Show, Best 2D Artwork, Best 3D Artwork, Best Animation, Best Graphic Design. The artwork will be selected based on
• craftsmanship
• originality
• content
• other criteria determined by the juor

Criterion
Juried Student Exhibition
A juried student exhibition will be held annually, in the spring semester. The works in the exhibit and awards will be selected by a juror from outside the university.

Finding
11th Annual Juried Student Exhibition
The 11th Annual Juried Student Exhibition was held April 12-29, 2010. Works by 70 students were included in the exhibition which was juried by Sharon Kopriva, a nationally recognized artist from Houston. $5,650 were awarded to students for Best of Show, Best 2-D, Best Photography, Best 3-D, and Best Animation, as well as 2nd, and 3rd place awards in each catergory.

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement The Gaddis Geeslin Gallery continues to be a vital part of the SHSU Art Department and represents its face to the public. The gallery committee is comprised of 3-4 faculty members, and the Art Department's Visual Resource staff member. With a budget of $28,500 from Student Service Fees, the Gallery has held exhibitions of work by professional artists from across the U.S., exhibited and promoted the work of the Art Department Faculty, and exhibited the best work by students of the art department. All of these exhibitions have benefitted not only the Art Department, but students and faculty of SHSU and the community of Huntsville and Walker County. In addition to exhibitions, the Gallery has hosted public lectures by artists giving students, faculty and the community the opportunity to understand more about the exhibitions they are seeing, and to experience contemporary art in person. The department faculty will continue to improve the Gaddis Geeslin Gallery through the actions noted in the goals.
