During AY 2010, 82 percent of classes in the Department of Management and Marketing were taught by Academically Qualified faculty. The high level of AQ faculty provides a solid foundation of highly qualified faculty to address the department's mission of providing quality education to its students as well as contributing to the expansion of knowledge and professional practices within their disciplines. The Faculty Evaluation System and the culture of the Department have contributed to this outcome.

This exceeds the stated criterion. Several adjunct faculty are used in the Department, some of which are not PQ. These individuals will engage in a developed program and will become PQ. They do an excellent job in the classroom and are worthy of retention.

The department, college, and university utializes the IDEA System as part of its evaluation of classroom performance. The IDEA System, developed by the IDEA Center at Kansas State University, is a nationally normed, validated and reliable measure of classroom performance based on up to 12 learning objectives. The IDEA scores are a major portion of the department's Faculty Evaluation System (FES) as it relates to classroom performance. The percentage of effective teachers as defined and measured using IDEA will provide data as to the quality of instruction within the Department of Management and Marketing.

Three members fell short of the target and are making adjustments based on feedback from students and consultations with accomplished instructors. Seventy four percent of the faculty scored above a "50" on the IDEA teaching evaluation system. This is an improvement over last year.

The department uses the Faculty Evaluation System (FES) Form 3 to document the publications and other intellectual contributions of the faculty. The percentage of effective researchers defined and measured using FES 3 will provide information about the quantity and quality of intellectual contributions provided by the department's faculty.

Strategic Planning Findings
Sub-committees continued to work on the strategic plan throughout the year. A mid-year, half-day retreat was held to gauge progress on assignments. Committees gave reports which were discussed and led to a refinement of assignments. The committee has completed work on the proposal for the MS in Project Management. The New Student Orientation committee has completed work on outlining the content of this program. This has now become a college wide initiative and the charge of a college committee. All who voiced an opinion agreed that incentives are needed to move the quality of publications to a higher level.

The proposal for the MS in Project Management is complete and will be presented to the college curriculum committee in August 2010. Other issues to be advanced are: the development of a student research pool, curriculum and pedagogy that reflect our student’s lifestyle, and the opportunity to host a conference on RFID. The strategic planning process will continue indefinitely. This is the responsibility of the Department Chair. However, it must be noted that this process is championed and supported by all departmental faculty.

Curriculum Findings
Faculty members in each program area met to discuss curriculum issues within the major. In May, 2010, the entire department discussed all curriculum issues at the department strategic planning meeting. Discussion centered around three main issues: 1) the Master of Science degree in Project Management, 2) the new graduate course in Staffing, and 3) incorporating additional SAP (ERP) components into current courses.

The committee has completed work on the proposal for a Master of Science in Project Management which will be presented to the College Curriculum Committee in fall 2010. The Staffing course will be worked into the rotation of graduate course offerings. Finally, faculty who are interested in integrating Enterprise Resource Planning into the curriculum are participating in training toward that end.
