2009 - 2010

Registrar

Goal
Tuition Rebate Process
Better publicty to the graduating seniors concerning the tution rebate.

Objective
Linking The Tuition Rebate Form To Several Websites
Will be adding links for the tution rebate to several different web pages to help publicize the rebate application

Indicator
Number Of Tuition Rebate Apps Arriving In The Registrar's Office
By creating the links and making the rebate more accessible, we should receive more applications, earlier in the semester.

Criterion
50% Increase
Objective will be considered met if there is a 50% increase over the past year.

Finding
Rebate Applications Increased
Rebate Applications increased 230% from May 2008.

Action
Move To The Next Step And Link The Rebate Form To Several Websites
Will be linking the rebate form to the Registrar's Web page and will ask each college to place a link to the form on their pages. Expecting to see yet another increase in applications once the web links are put in place.

Goal
Recruitment/Retention Process
The Registrar's Office is hoping, with this goal, to aid in the recruitment process with the addition of a few "tools"

Objective
How Do I Come Back? Postcard
This postcard will explain to students who resign from school or to students who have been inactive for a while what steps they should take to come back.

Indicator
Number Of Returning Students Receiving Postcard
This data base will allow us to monitor our success with the postcards. As students are returning we can add a personal touch to their return experience.

Criterion
Increase Over Past Year Of Number Of Returning Students Receiving Postcard
The post cards will add a personal touch and make their return to SHSU a smooth process. With the personal attention drawing the students back to SHSU, the returning/retention rates should increase.

Finding
Distribution Of Postcard
Postcard was distributed to 900 former students.  Then returning students were compared to the students who received the postcard to determine how many actually came back.  By this comparison it was determined that 51 students who received the postcard returned to SHSU.

Action
Postcard Distribution
We will continue to produce the postcard for the next year to determine whether this is an effective outreach goal.

Objective
Create A Newsletter To Be Distributed To High School Counselors
The newsletter will contain information from departments on campus that would be beneficial to a high school student who is considering attending SHSU. The newsletter will also be distributed to community college advisors to be used as a recruitment tool for transfer students.

Indicator
Hits To Newsletter Website
A link to the newsletter and various other departments on campus will be made available to our "target" market of high school counselors and community college advisors. We will monitor the hits to this site to determine if we are reaching our "target" market.

Criterion
Average Of 5 Hits Per Week
The efforts of the newsletter will be considered successful if throughout the year there is an average of five hits per week.  We expect the hits to be seasonal with a smaller number of hits in the fall and a larger number of hits in the spring.

Finding
Newsletters Not Available
This is still in creation stage.

Action
Producing Newsletter
Registrar's office will continue to collaborate with admissions on creation of this newsletter which we hope to be available throughout 2010-2011..

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement The Banner database platform will go live for the Registrar's office in Spring 2011 for summer and fall.  That event will allow us to track the number of hits on the recruiting newsletter.  Still, the newsletter will be available to the target group 2010-2011.  The postcard will continue to be distributed with just a small tweak to the design and correlated with returning students to determine effectiveness.  With the rebate application on the Registrar's and colleges' websites, there should be an increase over the past year of the applilcations received.
