Delays in the assessment process caused the Grounds Maintenance Staff to miss the June 1, 2010 deadline.  After assessing the campus flower beds and over all landscape a Priority List of eleven renovation/re-landscape areas has been completed as of July 1, 2010. See attached information.

Indicator
Implement Designated Portions Of Lanscape Renewal Plan

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement The University enrollment growth over the past years and the expansion of our building and renovation program on the campus has placed a strain on the ability to clean the increased real estate without an increase in custodial staffing.  The building self inspection program has substantiated this condition as the scores on our inspections have fallen.  The underlying reasons have been determined to be the lack of sufficient staff in various buildings.  With the addition of several new custodian and foreperson positions we can bring our staffing back up to the recommended strengths for our desired campus cleaning levels.  The building self inspection program will be an important future yardstick in assessing the success of our actions.

The University has for many years received highly favorable comments on the appearance of our campus.  We believe this is a major contributing factor in bringing students to our campus for their undergraduate and graduate learning processes.  As such we feel it is important to set goals for renewing our campus landscape areas every year.  By assessing the campus annually we can set plans in place to strategically make landscape improvements which complement our dense tree growth, the colorful shrub and flower beds, and the gently changing levels of our campus grounds.  This August we are applying for one of the Professional Grounds Management Society’s Green Star Awards.
