Human Resources offered 49 training sessions on PeopleAdmin, Safety and Confidentiality. Scheduled new employee benefit orientations totaled 45 with an additional 39 one-on-one orientation sessions. Comparing the scheduled training and orientation sessions for FY 2010 to the previous fiscal year, the increase was 119%.

Efforts have been initiated to develop a survey to measure the perceived learning that training attendees gain during sessions. To assess the training needs on campus, a training survey was administered to faculty and staff employees. To enhance staff development, a Human Resources Manager for Training and Development was hired. This HR Manager is providing training sessions on safety, PeopleAdmin, and will facilitate the campus Banner training. Additional presentations will be offered by the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, the Social Security Administration, and the Employees Retirement System of Texas. HR is also working with the SHSU Wellness Committee to increase wellness initiatives.

The final participation rate of targeted SHSU employees in the Chronicle of Higher Ed. 2010 Great Colleges to Work For Survey was 53%, which greatly exceeded the criterion which was the minimum percentage that permitted SHSU's responses to be analyzed for competetive ranking and recognition. SHSU was named as one of the 2010 Great Colleges to Work For.
The final participation rate of targeted SHSU employees in the Houston Chronicle survey was 63%, also greatly exceeding the minimum required. SHSU was named a top workplace in the greater Houston area in 2010.
