Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement The University Center partners will no longer total six since three of the original partners have decided to submit their intention to terminate and withdraw their participation in The University Center located in The Woodlands, Texas. However, due to SHSU’s strong showing of commitment through course offerings, enrollments, and services over the past 12 years, SHSU will be building their own facility in close proximity to the existing University Center in The Woodlands and this will provide additional space for SHSU’s growth. These accomplishments enabled SHSU at TUC to successfully achieve their objective for this goal.

With the leaving of three partners, SHSU in The Woodlands decided to grasp some of the abandoned programs. The College of Humanities & Social Sciences decided on five new undergraduate programs to start in the Fall 2010 semester. In early June, a workshop was held with Lone Star College (LSC) advisors, counselors, faculty, and administrators to inform them of these new programs and provide them with transfer brochures which showed how all of the lower level classes would transfer into these programs. These tools will help LSC advise/inform their students on these new programs which in turn will hopefully provide new students for SHSU. In addition, the brochures will help prospective students in choosing the courses needed to complete their degrees and fulfill their dreams. This workshop also provided the opportunity for SHSU to network and foster relationships with Lone Star College District.

Close to 600 students in the Fall and Spring semesters only attend classes at The University Center. With the advisors, Bearkat One Office, GRE prep courses, and study skill workshops being provided at The University Center, these services have become a vital and integral part for the student’s success. By increasing these opportunities for SHSU students in The Woodlands, SHSU at TUC was able to achieve the objective for this goal.

SHSU at The University Center continues to provide administrative support by administering tests/exams for departments, adjuncts, and faculty members. With the increase in numbers from FY09 to FY10, SHSU at TUC was able to achieve the objective for this goal. Furthermore, additional requests may require the need for additional proctors or a testing center to help accommodate the working students taking classes at The University Center.
