THe Strategic planning document embedded in the 2010-11 budget request was presented and approved at the February 2010 department meeting. The document was sent to the Dean on April 7, 2010. The strategic planning document covered a two year period. The chair and faculty agreed that strategic planning needs to cover a more long term period of roughly five years and incorporate more focus on the development of the undergraduate and graduate programs.

Resource Allocation Findings
At the first department meeting of the academic year faculty were provided with forms in which to document requests for resources and travel. The completed forms were collected in the department offices, funds allocated to capital and maintenance purchases and to faculty travel ($27,000). The chair and faculty noted the need to give future consideration as to how allocation of faculty resources will be incorporated into the new five year strategic planning efforts.

Strategic Planning and Resource Allocation: In fall 2010 the department will begin developing a five year strategic planning document. Special attention will be given to improving the quality of the programs through improved curriculum evaluation, increasing enrollment numbers through additional recruitment efforts, and maintaining reputable teaching standards through the use of internal and external teaching resources. The chair will continue monitoring faculty resource needs and allocations with special attention given to how such needs and allocations will fit into the new five year strategic planning initiative.

Faculty documents and provides evidence of research, teaching and service activites together with formal end of cycle evaluations of teaching, service and research. This evidence and formal evaluation documents are reviewed by the DPTAC and department Chair. FES forms 1 and 8 are signed by both chair and faculty member and maintained as an historical record from the initial point of employment.

Faculty teaching performance will receive acceptable evaluations from both the chair and DPTAC. All teaching materials submitted for evaluation will be stored in the department chair's office and will be available without notice upon request.

All teaching materials were updated and stored at the proper location. The chair and the DPTAC committee issued acceptable evaluations to the vast majority of faculty members. Two faculty members' teaching performances were deemed unacceptable.

In an effort to expand support for faculty who fail to receive acceptable evaluations the chair will request that all such faculty begin using the resources provided by SHSU Professional and Academic Center for Excellence (PACE) and continue to do so until their teaching evaluations are scored as acceptable by the chair and DPTAC.
