Instructional Technology

Goal
Visibililty And Impact

Objective
Graduate Candidate Professional Presentations
The number of candidates in the Curriculum and Instruction Instructional Technology masters program presenting research at professional conferences will increase from the 2007-2008 academic year.

Indicator
Graduate Candidate Presentations
Annual number of Instructional Technology graduate candidates' presentations at professional conferences compared to the 2007-2008 academic year.

Criterion
Graduate Professional Presentations
Increase the number of professional presentations by the graduate candidates in the Masters of Instructional Technology in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

Finding
Graduate Candidate Professional Presentation
Findings: During the 2008-2009 school year, three graduate candidates from the Masters in Instructional Technology program presented at the Region 6 Technology Conference. The Region 6 Technology conference provided opportunities for EC-12 teachers in the Region 6 area to attend professional development instructional technology workshops and presentations. No graduate candidates presented at similar conferences in the 2007-2008 school year.

Action
Graduate Candidate Professional Presentations
During the 2009-2010 school year, five graduate candidates have been invited to make professional presentation at the Sam Houston Educational Technology and Communication Conference to be held on October 24, 2009. The Sam Houston Educational Technology and Communications Conference is an opportunity for local EC-12 teachers as well as higher education teachers to attend professional development instructional technology workshops and presentations, to hear prominent speakers and leaders in instructional technology, and to experience hands-on opportunities with cutting edge instructional technology hardware and software.

Goal
Program Quality And Effectiveness

Objective
Comprehensive Examinations
The percentage of candidates in the Instructional Technology masters program who score "high pass" on their Comprehensive Examinations will increase from the 2007-2008 academic year.

Indicator
High Pass Rates On Comprehensive Exams
Comparison of number of "high pass" scores in first cohort and the "high pass" rates in the second cohort.

Criterion
Comprehensive Examinations
Higher percentage of "high pass" rates in the second chort than in the first cohort.

Finding
High Pass Rates On Comprehensive Exam
Because we needed to add program curriculum changes addressing specific strategies aimed at improving high pass scores on the comprehensive exams and because the second cohort graduate students began in the summer of 2008, we only were able to compile the pass and high pass scores for the second cohort in May, 2009.

Action
High Pass Rate On The Comprehensive Exam
During the 2009-2010 school year, an assignment will be added to the curriculum of the CI 567 course, a course needed by all graduate candidates in the Masters in Instructional Technology program, requiring the graduate candidates to research and develop papers addressing specific instructional technology topics and to include in the papers the internal documentation and works cited APA format required on the comprehensive examination.

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement For the Visibility and Impact Goal, the number of graduate students making professional presentations increased for the 2008-2009 school yeaar. For the Program Quality and Effectiveness Goal, we were only able to compile the second cohort comp scores in May, 2009 and were not able to modify the program curriculum in 2008-2009 to address improved comp scores; however,we identified an action for 2009-2010 addressing curriculum changes aimed specifically at increasing the number of high pass scores on the comprehensive exams.
