Professional Golf Management (PGM) Program

Goal
Produce College Educated PGA Members
The goal of the PGA Golf Management program is for students to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree while becoming a member of the PGA of America.

Objective
Students To Complete PGA Membership Requirements
Students to complete all requirements of the PGA of America's Professional Golf Management program.

Indicator
Playing Ability Test
Pass the PGA of America's Playing Ability Test.

Criterion
Pass The PGA Of America's Playing Ability Test
Successful completion of the PGA's Playing Ability Test will require students to shoot a target score on a given day at a given golf course. The target score is arrived at by multiplying the rating of the course by 2 and adding 15.

Finding
Pass The PGA's Playing Ability Test
Students must pass the PGA of America's 36 hole test of playing ability prior to graduation. Currently SHSU has a pass rate of over 70% of active students passing the PAT.

Internship Experience
Successful completion of 16 months of internship work.

Criterion
Internship Experience
Successful completion of the internship experience will include that it take place in at least 3 different settings with a detailed evaluation filled out by each host.

Finding
Internships
Students will complete 4 successful internships over 16 months. The internships must take place in at least 3 different settings. Currently 100% of students eligible for an internship are getting employment.

Complete PGA Of America's Educational Program
Successful completion of the PGA of America's three level educational program.

Criterion
PGA Educational Program
Successfully pass all knowledge tests and simulations associated with Level 1,2, and 3 of the PGA Professional Golf Management program.

Finding
Completion Of PGA's Educational Program
Students must complete the PGA of America's 3 level educational program. Successful completion includes the completion of 3 work experience kits concluded with checkpoint testing at the conclusion of each level. Students who do not follow the cohort progression of the PGA's educational program will be removed from the program.

Action
Completion of the PGA Golf Management Program
Assess what percentage of students are successfully graduating from the PGA Golf Management Program. National averages dictate that approximately 45% of students who enroll in the program will graduate.

The SHSU PGA Golf Management program is a college degree program designed to attract and educate bright, highly motivated men and women to service all aspects of the golf industry.

Program Enrollment
The goal of the PGA Golf Management program is to ultimately have 200 students at any one given time.

Indicator
Yearly Program Enrollment
The yearly program goal for enrollment will be 50 students to satisfy the goal of reaching 200 total students.

Criterion
Yearly Program Enrollment
The goal of admitting 50 new students per year can be monitored by watching the amount of campus visits which are held.

Finding
Program Enrollment
The fall of 2005 saw 28 students enroll in the program. The fall of 2006,2007, and 2008 saw student enrollment of 34, 32, and 35 students.

Action
Yearly Program Enrollment
The new PGA Golf Management program has gotten off to a very good start. In order to reach the goal of 50 new students per year we must continue to promote the program and give it time. Since this is the first and only program in the state of Texas it will take time to educate people about the program. We will continue to conduct campus visits, send mailers out to high school golfers around the state and country and promote the program with high school golfers and guidance counselors. In addition we will continue to promote the program at various junior golf tournaments around the state of Texas.


Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement The SHSU PGA Golf Management program is off to a good start. Since the first class enrolled in 2005 129 students have enrolled in the program. Attrition rates are better than the university average and better than other PGA Golf Management university averages. The goal will be to continue growing the program to reach the goal of achieving 200 total students.

Currently SHSU boasts one of the highest PAT pass percentages in the country with over 70% of current students passing the PAT. The internship program boasts a 100% job placement rate and students are progressing through the PGA of America's educational program. The goal will be to achieve at least a 45% graduation rate. The first class of students will graduate in May of 2010.
