The most prestigous accrediting for counseling programs is Council for Accreditaton of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The department is committed to earning full-accreditation from this peer review process. The department will continue to move forward pursuing accreditation for the school counseling program by Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs

Prior to submitting a self-study the curriculum must be alligned with the CACRP standards for student performance. Successfull completion of the allignment positions the department to move forward with the pursuit of the accreditation.

Improve Critical Thinking In School Counseling
Graduates of the Master of Education Program will be skillful, critical thinking school counselors.

Objective
Gradautes Will Successfully Complete An Appropriate Professional Practice And Training Experience.
Graduates of the MED in School Counseling will successfully complete an appropriate professional practice and training experience by demonstrating a deep understanding of the role of the school counselor. This understanding will be demonstrated by graduate's ability to use critical thinking skills to interact with students in schools in the most effective manner.

Graduate Students Will Perform The Role Of School Counselor While Enrolled In Field Practicum.
MED Students enrolled in field practicum will deliver school counseling services in a primary or secondary school setting.

Criterion
100% of the students will be competent in all eight domains identified by the TExES.
Competence as a school counselor includes the ability to perform the following roles and responsibilities as outlined on the TExES Examination while completing field practicum in a school setting:
1. Program Management

3. Counseling
4. Consultation

6. Student Assessment
7. Professional Behavior
8. Professional Standards

Students are competent in all eight areas of school counselors responsibilities
100% of graduate students enrolled in the School Counseling MED Program are ranked with meets or exceed expectations on all items related to the school counselors responsibilities. This high ranking of site supervisors indicates that graduate students in the school counseling program are skillful in critical thinking in counseling.

CNE faculty teaching school counseling courses will continue to monitor the learning objectives and outcomes of students to make sure they are prepared to successfully complete an appropriate professional practice and training experience.

Graduate Students Will Demonstrate Competency In Research.
Graduate students in the school counseling track will demonstrate competency in research by completing an action research project designed to address an area of need of interest in schools.

School Counseling Track Students Will Complete An Action Research Project.
Students enrolled in CNE 579, Research Methods, will present a scholarly prepared and conducted action research project demonstrating graduate level research skills.

Criterion
100% of students in the School Counseling Program will complete a research project
All graduate studetns enrolled in the school counseling program are required to plan, implement, evaluate and present a scholarly research project while enrolled in CNE 579.

Finding
Criterion was achieved; with 100% of the graduate students completing a reseach project.
CNE 579, Research Methods, is a core counseling course and all students must pass the course before moving to candidacy in the School Counseling Program.

Action
Monitor consistence in all research courses.
CNE full-time faculty teaching CNE 579, Research Methods, will meet with adjunct faculty to ensure that uniform rigor is expected of all students enrolled in CNE 579.

Objective
Graduate Students Will Demonstrate Knowledge Of The Literature.
Graduate students in the school counseling program will demonstrate knowledge of current literature in counseling by preparing literature reviews of selected topics related to schools and students. Students will critique the professional articles and publication and demonstrate critical thinking skills.

Indicator
Students Will Present A Scholarly Review Of Current Literature.
Graduate students will demonstrate knowledge of the literature by reading professional journal articles and other publications and present scholarly reviews of the literature.

Criterion
Students conduct a scholarly literature review.
Students conduct a literature review and locate scholarly journal articles related to their selected school related topics. Journal articles are to be critiqued and evaluated for their contribution to increased knowledge of the graduate student.

Finding
All graduate students demonstrate knowledge of literature
All of the graduate students in the School Counseling MED program demonstrate some level of knowledge of literature by reading and critiquing professional journal articles, about 25% of the students provide a summary of the literature rather than a scholarly critique and analysis of the professional writings.

Action
Improve Graduate Students' Knowledge Of The Literature.
To improve gradaute student's knowledge of the literature, reading and critiquing journal articles will be assigned in the first course students take in the counseling program, CNE 511, Orientation to Counseling.


Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement During the upcoming academic year, the following will occur: 1) the accreditation process for school counseling will be ongoing since the PhD Program submission to CACREP is in progress (with the School Counseling Program to follow), 2) a satisfaction survey will be revised and submitted to employers of graduates from the school counseling program which will be followed by analysis and revision of our program, 3) data from the TExES will be analyzed and revisions of the two counseling programs (CNE 533 & CNE 635) will take place to address any deficienies, 4) students enrolled in CNE 511 will be evaluated using their review of literature for assessment of proficiency with remediation if necessary.
