Goal
Prepare Graduates For Faculty Positons
All graduates from the counselor education doctoral program will be prepared to assume faculty positions in counselor education programs or related fields in higher education.

Graduates of the counselor education doctoral program will be prepared to accept positions in counselor education or closely related fields.

Students are prepared to accept faculty positions.
Four of the six graduates from the counselor education program are employed as counselor educators at universities. One of the graduates is employed as the Director of Counseling for a large school districts and one graduate is in private practice. All graduates have been gainfully employed.

100% Of The Students In The Ph.D. Program Demonstrate Knowledge Of Literature
Six graduates and three addition students who will graduate this summer or fall semester have completed the dissertation. All nine students demonstrate knowledge of literature by completing an exhaustive search of the literature concerning their research topic, critiquing and synthesizing the material. The nine students completed all of Chapter II Review of the Literature required items as listed on the Checklist for Dissertation Quality. All of the six graduates have been hired as faculty (full-time or adjunct) in counselor education programs.

Action
Modify learning expereince for students based on survey results
Based on feedback from stakeholders (graduates and employers of graduates) more emphasis will be placed on multicultural counseling with the development of a new course elective on this topic.

Objective
Graduates Will Be Prepared To Teach Students How To Conduct A Review Of The Liteature.
Graduates of the Counselor Education PhD program meet the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP)standard of demonstrating competence in conducting and writing a scholarly review of counseling literature, thereby, as faculty in a Counselor Education program, the graduates will be prepared to teach students how to conduct and write scholarly views of literature.

Ph.D. Students Will Present A Scholarly Literature Review.
Ph.D. students will demonstrate knowledge of the literature and reserach abilities by including all of the items on the Checklist for Dissertation Quality in their final dissertation project.

Criterion
Journal Articles And Publications Will Be Reviewed
Students will read all current literature pertaining to their topic of interest in preparation for their dissertation. They will synthesis the literature and present a well prepared review of the literature for their dissertaion. All students will obtain a signature from their five Dissertaiton Committee members indicating the have completed the dissertation successfully including a scholarly presented review of the literature.

Improving Ph.D. students' knowledge of literature
Reading and critiquing of current literature in the field of counseling will continue to be an expectation in all courses in the Counselor Education program.

Objective
Graduates Will Demonstrate Competency In Research.
All graduates of the Counseling Education Ph.D. program will demonstrate competency in research by planning, implementing, analyzing, and writing a scholarly dissertation based on their research topic. The completed dissertation will contain all items on the Checklist for Dissertation Quality. The ability to do research will help prepare them for faculty positions in which they will direct student's research projects.

Throughout the program, students in the Ph.D. program will conduct research projects which will result in a well-written scholarly dissertation. All items on the Checklist for Dissertation Quality will be included in the final preparation of the dissertation.

All of the students in the Ph.D. Counselor Education program must be engaged in conducting and writing scholarly research.

Criterion Was Achieved; With 100% Of The Ph.D. Conducting Research
All of the students in the Ph.D. who have completed writing the dissertation included in the final dissertation 100% of the items on the Checklist for Dissertation Quality.

Action
Improving students quality of research projects
Begin talking to Ph.D. students in the first semester of the program about selecting a topic for research working toward their final dissertation research project.

Measure Stakeholder's Satisfaction
Measure graduates,employers, members of the CNE doctoral advisory board, and other stakeholders' satisfaction with doctoral program in Counseling Education.

Measure graduates, employers, and CNE advisory board members to determine level of satisfaction with the doctoral program in Counselor Education.

Survey
As part of the CACREP self-study requirements, all constituencies of the Counselor Education program were surveyed concerning their satisfaction with the learning experiences developed for the doctoral students in Counselor Education.

Criterion
Survey Of Stakeholders'
Fifty percent of stakeholders (graduates and employers of graduates) will return completed survey and all of the CNE Advisory Board members attending the Advisory Board meeting will complete the survey.

Finding
Results Of The Survey
Surveys were mailed to six graduates of the counselor education program and to the six employers of the graduates. All six of the graduates returned the survey and five of the employers of the graduates returned the survey. The results of the surveys indicated that employers were satisfied with the preparation of our graduates. The only suggestion was that more emphasis be placed on Cross-Cultural Counseling in our PhD program.

Continue To Survey Stakeholders
Based on the feedback from stakeholders surveyed, overall satisfaction with the PhD program was expressed. Based on the recommendation of the employers and Advisory Board members, a Multi-cultural course was developed and added as a required course for students in the Counselor Education PhD program. The faculty will continue to annually survey graduates of the program, employers of graduates and the CNE Advisory Board Committee members.

Align Doctoral Curriculum
Align doctoral curriculum and syllabi with CACREP standards for doctoral program.

Objective
Program Alignment To CACREP
Modify course content to develop learning outcomes for Ph.D. students that reflect CACREP standards of a high-quality counselor education program. Therefore, students will be competent in content and skills necessary to become well prepared for a faculty position as a counselor educator.

Ph.D. faculty will conduct a self-study of the Counselor Education program and modify students' learning experiences to align with on CACREP standards.

A self-study of the Ph.D. progam will be completed and all course content and learning experiences for students will be modified as necessary to meet CACREP standards.

The CACREP self-study was completed and submitted to CACREP in May 2009.

Action
Program content and learning experiences for students modified.
Based on the results of the CACREP self-study, course content and learning experiences for students was modified. For example, a new course in advanced multicultural counseling will be developed in the fall of 2009 and submitted to the curriculum commitee for the College of Education.


Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement The findings of the self-study for CACREP accreditation exposed several areas that are in need of modification:

(1) Measure preparedness of graduates for faculty positions by surveying annually employers of graduates from the Ph.D. program.
(2) Infuse more student learning experiences that focus on the interrelatedness of culture, ethics, and quality counseling and teaching.
(3) Based on the employer survey results, and to more efficiently meet CACREP standards for accreditation, a cross-cultural course was developed and is currently going through the curriculum approval process. The course will be offered for the first time in 2010.
