Administration MA, MED (Principal Certification)

Goal
Developing Quality Principal Preparation Program
Enhance the quality and effectiveness of the Principal Preparation program.

Objective
Increase In The Number Of Students Who Pass The Principal Certification Exam
1. Students will master course objectives in the principal preparation program which have been aligned with ELCC and Texas Principal Competencies to prepare them to succesfully pass the principal certification exam on the first try.
2. Students will demonstrate mastery of the principal practice test with 70% accuracy before taking the official certification exam.
3. Students will attend exam preparation sessions before attempting the exam the first time and subsequent times if they do not pass the first time.

Indicator
TExES Scores
Increase in TExES Scores by
5%.

Criterion
Alignment
100% of students taking the principal certification exam will pass.

Finding
Increase Pass Rate For Principal Certification Exam
The TExES pass rates are within the 90th percentile. The course alignment has not been implemented long enough to determine if the course content changes have impacted the pass rate for TExES. Currently, many factors impact students' pass rates.

Action
Increase TExES Pass Rates
Continuous work will be done to prepare students for the TExES. More small group review sessions will be implemented. More analysis of the scores will be examined to determine areas that need improvement.Analysis of students' results on the TExES provides us information which identifies strengths and weaknesses in our courses content. Based on these findings, adjustments are made to the course content.

Action
Course Alignment
Continuous work will be done to standardize syllabi, texts, and activities presented in courses. In addition, revised comprehensive exams will be implemented in fall 2009 or spring 2010. The continuous monitoring of the syllabi and comprehensive exam information ensures that our candidates are prepared to pass the TExES examination for principal preparation. We also monitor candidates' grades in courses to determine if the content needs to be adjusted.

Objective
Increase Stakeholder Surveys
1. Monitor the distribution and return of stakeholder surveys.
2. Analyze the feedback from candidates regarding the effectiveness of the principal preparation program and use the findings to identify areas of need to improve the program.

Indicator
Quantity Of Surveys
Increase in number of stakeholder surveys.

Criterion
Customer Satisfaction
Increase return of program effectiveness surveys by 5% from candidates who complete the principal preparation program.

Finding
Increase Stakeholder Survey Returns
Surveys are distributed to students after they leave the program. The return rate has not increased. We are asking students to complete surveys at the end of the semester during their last semester in the program.

Action
Increase Stakeholder Survey Return Rates
Students will be asked to complete the stakeholder survey in class during their last semester. The survey will be posted on Blackboard for the students to access. The purpose of the student surveys is for students to describe their experiences to provide feedback regarding areas of needs and strengths for program improvement.

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement Students' success in the principal preparation program is determined by the percent of students who pass the state mandated TExES principal certification test. The state deems a principal preparation program as appropriate for training current and aspiring school leaders if 70% of the candidates in the program pass the TExES. Our goals are not only to ensure that 90% or more of our candidates pass the TExES, but to ensure that our graduates are prepared to deal with the demands of the schools today and in the future. Therefore, to maintain the quality of the content of our courses, each semester, course syllabi are reviewed by the curriculum team for the principal preparation program. The team monitors the efforts to ensure that professors use the latest syllabi which include all of the required information for the courses. Using the ELCC standards and the Texas Principal Competencies as the guides; standardization efforts for syllabi including course goals, objectives, activities, assessments;texbooks; and comprehensive examinations which are completed during the candidates' last semester of the program are ongoing. In addition, the pass rates for candidates on the TExES examination is closely monitored and analyzed. The data is utilized in the continuous improvement of course content.
