Graduate Candidate Professional Presentations
The number of candidates in the Curriculum and Instruction Masters of Education program presenting research at professional conferences will increase from the 2007-2008 academic year.

Annual number of Masters of Education graduate students presentations at professional conferences compared to 2007-2008 academic year.
In our growing efforts to encourage research and thesis in our graduate programs, candidates will be supported in their efforts to complete action research and present their research at professional conferences.

Criterion
Graduate Professional Presentations
Increase in the number of professional presentations by the Masters of Education graduate candidates in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

Finding
Desired Criteria Achieved, The Number Of Graduate Students Making Professional Presentations Increased.
During the 2007-2008 academic year, there were no Curriculum and Instruction graduate students who presented their research at professional conferences. During the 2008-2009 academic year, 2 of C&I's graduate students presented their research at professional conferences.

Action
Increase Graduate Students' Professional Presentations.
All candidates in C & I are now being required to complete action research in their classrooms and then, present their findings to their classmates and faculty. Having a prepared professional presentation, and having presented it will encourage candidates to present at professional conferences.

Objective
The Percentage Of Candidates Receiving A Score Of
The percentage of candidates receiving a score of "Pass" or "High Pass" on their Comprehensive Examinations will increase from the 2007-2008 academic year.

Indicator
Pass Rates On Comprehensive Examinations.
During the last semester of the masters program, candidates are required to take their comprehensive examinations. Each candidate must answer questions from each of the courses submitted by the course professor.

Criterion
Pass Rates On The Comprehensive Examinations.
More candidates will receive "Pass" or "High Pass" on their comprehensive examination. These exams are blind scored by faculty in Curriculum and Instruction or the candidates' content area.

Finding
Desired Criteria Achieved.
During the 2007-2008 academic year, 58 candidates completed their comprehensive examinations. Of this 58, 55 (95%)received either "pass" or "high pass". Comparatively, for the 2008-2009 academic year, 40 candidates took the examination and 39 (98%) received either "pass" or "high pass".

Action
Continue To Improve Candidates' Scores On Comprehensive Examinations.
Continue to include APA format requirements in the graduate coursework as well as alert the candidates that particular topics in courses would be great comps topics.


Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement For the academic year 2008-2009, the Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction met both of its goals. The number of graduate students making professional presentations did increase. The faculty in the program would like to continue to improve the number. Additionally, the percenatge of candidates passing their comprehensive examinations increased from the previous academic year.


Upcoming Tasks/ Improvements

In light of moving from written comprehensive exams to graduate research projects, develop a data tracking system to measure the number of students who earned as A,B, or C on their graduate research project.  Once this data is collected, then set goals to improve the quality of graduate research projects.
