Mathematics MA

Goal
Deliver A Curriculum With Appropriate Discipline Specific Skill Sets
The curriculum will provide students with opportunities to develop the skills typically required of professionals in the area of study.

Objective
Understanding Mathematical Structures
Students will have the ability to understand and use mathematical structures such as groups, rings, fields, functions, homomorphisms, and isomorphisms. They will also be familiar with the concepts of analysis in differential and integral calculus. Students will be familiar with the concepts of probability and statistics and be able to apply those concepts.

Indicator
Coursework - Core Courses
MA students will take Mth586 (abstract algebra), 587 (transformational geometry), 588 (real analysis), and 589 (probability and statistics).

Criterion
Successful Completion Of Coursework.
MA students will pass 586 ,587, 588, and 589 with a C or better.

Finding
Results
Three out of three MA students received A's in their four core courses.

Criterion
Successful Completion Of Comperhensive Exam.
MA students will pass an oral comprehensive examination of the four core courses.

Finding
Results Of Comprehensive Examinations
All three three students have passed their oral comprehensive examinations.

Action
Revision Of Core Courses.
Consider revision of content of core courses.

Goal
Deliver A Curriculum With Appropriate Discipline Specific Knowledge
The curriculum will address the discipline specific knowledge dictated by professional societies and/or professionals in the workforce.

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement The MA core course of 586, 587, 588, and 589 provide a solid mathematical foundation for additional graduate work for inservice teachers. Results of the current assessment show that the students are developing the necessary skills and knowledge of their discipline.
