Environmental Science BS

Goal
Program Evaluation
The status of the interdisciplinary BS program in Environmental Science at SHSU is currently under evaluation. Even though graduates from this program have excellent employment opportunities, enrollments in this major have been declining for a decade, and many ESC courses have not been taught in several years. The goal of the working group convened to assess this program is to determine whether the BS in Environmental Studies should be resurrected or terminated.

Objective
ESC Evaluation Group
A committee will be established to evaluate the utility of continuing this low enrollment major.

Indicator
Committee Report
The committee will provide a report to the chair and dean detailing the pros and cons of retaining the program.

Criterion
Program Decision
Based on the committee report, the chair and dean will provide a recommendation to the faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences. A concensus decision will determine whether or not the program is retained.

Finding
Committee Report
The committee failed to complete the requested report.

Action
ESC Evaluation Committee
The committee will be reconvened in the forthcoming year with a new chair. The new committee will be charged with same responsibilities.

Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement Discussions are in progress on whether or not to retain this degree program and if so, how best to redesign this degree to serve students. A vote by all Department faculty clearly indicated support for retaining the program, but the final decisions will be based on a report by a faculty committee.
