Update to previous cycle's plan for continuous improvement

Plan for continuous improvement The vast majority of goals and objectives for the College of Arts and Sciences have been operational in nature for the past two years. The general focus of these goals has been to produce more efficient processes for allocation of resources, marketing of programs, processing curriculum changes and new program development, and growing and supporting graduate programs. The college has not had a rigorous or formal strategic planning process in the past. It was determined by COAS staff that we first needed to establish efficiency in these areas, then develop a more formal planning process. We feel that we are now in a position to do so. In the FY 10 goals and objectives we will tie the curriculum proocess to our budgeting and position request processes. We will develop large scale marketing plans for all programs. In anticipation of the split in the college, we will begin splitting marketing and planning efforts into an "arts" side and a "science" side. All new program proposals will require budgetary analyses that will be incorporated into the COAS budget request. Unfortunately, this is not current practice.
