The Department of Sociology provides high quality teaching that disseminates knowledge on social life, social change and the social causes and consequences of human behavior.

Indicator
Evaluation Of Faculty Teaching
Each Sociology faculty member prepares a Sociology Comprehensive Merit Award Form that contains his/her academic activities (Research, Teaching and Service). This form will be used to evaluate faculty teaching.

Criterion
Evaluation Teaching
A score of 18 or more in the teaching section of the Sociology Comprehensive Merit Award Form is considered satisfactory. 100% of faculty will obtain a score of 18 or more on the Form.

For 2006-2007, 100 % of the faculty met the minimum required standards

The department chair evaluates each faculty''s academic activities and discusses this evaluation with the faculty member. This is aimed at improving teaching. The chairs reviews syllabi, teaching portfolios and students evaluations.

Research
The Faculty will produce high-quality research that investigates the structure of groups, organizations, and societies and how people interact within these contexts.

Faculty Research Performance
Each Sociology faculty member prepares a Sociology Comprehensive Merit Award Form that contains his/her academic activities (Research, Teaching and Service). This form will be used to assess faculty production in research.

Criterion
Evaluation Research
A score of 18 or more in the research section of the Sociology Comprehensive Merit Award Form is considered satisfactory. 100% of faculty will receive a score of 18 or more on the research section of the merit form.

In consultation with the faculty member, the department chair makes specific recommendations on how to improve the faculty member''s performance in research. The chair evaluates research activities, the research agenda, quality and quantity of publications and grant proposals

Faculty will provide service to the department, university, profession and community.

Each Sociology faculty member prepares a Sociology Comprehensive Merit Award Form that contains his/her academic activities (Research, Teaching and Service). This form will be used to assess successful completion of service.

Criterion
Evaluation Service
A score of 14 or more in the service section of the Sociology Comprehensive Merit Award Form is considered satisfactory. 100% of faculty will receive a score of 14 or more in the service section of the merit form.
