Students and faculty will provide feedback via course evaluations and focus group discussions.

Focus groups of students and faculty provided feedback on the courses offered to date.

Action
Sequence of Courses
As a result of this feedback, we revised the sequence of courses for future doctoral cohorts. We reconfigured the residency requirement for this cohort and future cohorts to allow them choices in how quickly they completed course work in the program.

Objective
Student Scholarly Activity
Students will present at professional conferences and submit articles for publication in cooperation with doctoral faculty members.

Indicator
Student Scholarship
Evidence of submission of articles for publication. Conference programs indicating presentation or program submission forms.

Criterion
Conferences, Collaboration & Paper Submissions
Increase the number of submissions for conference presentations from zero to 2; collaboration with students and faculty and increase student publication submissions from 0 to 2.

Finding
Conference Programs, Collaboration and Paper Subm
Conference programs indicate that four presentations were given at the local, regional or national level by students enrolled in cohort one. One collaborative paper was written with 2 others under review. One single authored student paper was published.

Faculty members are listed as co-presenters or as co-authors on the above indicators. Other faculty members have indicated through focus group discussions that they are working with students on research and writing projects

Promote faculty excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Doctoral faculty members will increase their research and publications and involve doctoral students when possible.

Evidence of submission and publication of articles. Evidence of grant application submissions.

Faculty Publications
One publication per academic year for faculty members teaching in the doctoral program.

Finding
Faculty Publications
Vitae indicate that most faculty members working with doctoral students did submit articles and most were published.

Action
Faculty Scholarship
Faculty will continue to work to increase publications and grants submissions. Collaboration with the doctoral students will facilitate this process.

Recruit doctoral faculty to fill vacant positions.

Faculty Recruitment
Data from faculty searches and new faculty hired.

Criterion
Additional Faculty
By fall 2007 at least one new faculty member will be hired with qualifications to teach in the doctoral program.

Finding
New Faculty
A very qualified faculty member was hired but resigned in August, before relocating to SHSU.

Action
Faculty Recruitment
Faculty have initiated an aggressive search to find a qualified doctoral faculty member.
