The dance program will improve tracking of students admitted to the BFA program to ensure that they are making progress appropriately
Objective
Admission And Retention Criteria Refined
In audition, juries, and junior barrier, implement objective assessment tools
Indicator
Students Admitted Will Pass The Junior Barrier
Students provisionally admitted to the BFA will be able to pass the Junior Barrier and be retained in the program
Criterion
Measurements of creative and technical accomplishment
All BFA candidates who have completed sophomore year will be assigned a faculty mentor to choreograph a solo demonstrating performance ability as well as grasp of choreographic principles. At the same time, a review of student''s dance GPA, along with review of student''s performance history will be reviewed. This information will be used to determine whether student will remain in the BFA program, or be advised into the BA plan.
Finding
Rubric for Junior Barrier needs to be refined
Presently the standards to be measured at the Junior Barrier are not well defined beyond the 3.0 GPA in dance courses. Faculty agree that we need to identify our expectations for the Junior Barrier presentation, and document them.
Action
Review objective measures for the Junior Barrier
Faculty are working to establish system to monitor candidates, along with developing more specific criteria for the barrier process (and contemplating changing the name from "barrier" to "review" as a more neutral term)
