Study Skills Program

Goal
Provide Effective Academic Support
The goal of Study Skills is to provide effective academic support to the students in order to help them achieve academic success.

Objective
Facilitator Training
Study Skills Student Facilitators will recieve the training necessary to successfully complete their assigned tasks

Indicator
Facilitator Training Workshops
Workshops will be held in which Study Skills Student Facilitators will trained to present the designed curriculum for study skills. In addition, the Student Facilitators will have a chance to discuss amongst themselves, and with the staff, best practices for teaching the study skills sessions.

Criterion
Student Facilitator Workshops
The Student Facilitator Workshops will be held twice a year, before the start of each long semester and weekly group meetings are held to address problems as they migth occur.

Training was offered at the beginning of each long semester and weekly meetings were held to discuss program events

Maintain Training program and weekly meetings.

Objective
Student Facilitator Performance
Study Skills Student Facilitators will demonstrate quality performance when conducting Study Skills sessions.

Indicator
Student Facilitator Performance Report
A report will be provided by the IRA Office at the end of each long semester which offers a comparison of each facilitator by the perforamnce of the students in their group.

Criterion
Student Facilitator Performance Levels
Student Facilitators will perform at a high level in their Study Skills sessions as is measured by the IRA Facilitator Performance Report.

Finding
Facilitators' Performance Levels
IRA Report indicates no significant difference in student performance based on their instructor.

Continue to evaluate the outcomes of students based on their facilitator

Objective
Student Performance
Students will demonstrate improved academic performance, enhanced study skills,and enhanced motivation.

GPA Improvement
A measured comparison of student GPA prior to taking, and following their participation in, Study Skills.

GPA
We expect increased GPA after particpation int he Study Skills program

Finding
GPA
IAR report indicated higher mean GPA score after attendance at study skills series.

Indicator
LASSI SCALES
A comparison will be conducted measuring the scores on the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory before and after particpation in the Study Skills program.
This instrument asseses time management, test-taking skills, motivation, attitude, ability to select main ideas, concentration, etc.

Criterion
LASSI
The expectation is an increase in LASSI scores after having participated in the Study Skills program

Finding
LASSI Scores
LASSI scores at the end of the study skills program were higher indicating improved study skills

Action
Student Perfromance
Continue to use the LASSI and GPA as indicators of student achievement and program effectiveness.
